Today is Prehistoric Park's 19th Anniversary and i'm just getting a piece made for it, i won't be able to finish it today (i've got a uni deadline to reach) but i promise it'll be something fantastic. #art #wip #dinosaurs

Preview of my latest #paleoart piece: a baby bison flees the deadliest predator of Ice Age Europe. Harrowing, harrowing stuff.

My mom keeps dinosaur figures outside to scare off raccoons who want to steal her garbage. She sent me a photo today. A large toad has found one of the dinosaur figures and befriended it. They are besties now.

Micropernodus is fighting Proscalops for his share of the early worm while a passing Amphicyon looks on.

This painting was commissioned by the NPS to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the John Day Fossil Beds site in Oregon.

the other inspiration is the mexica sun calendar, which represents the cycle of the sun Tonatiuh, starting as Huitzilopochtli, then Tzontémoc as the sunset, becoming the Mictlan sun or the sun of the dead under the earth, and then rising trough the pyramids of the feathered snake, Tonatiuh itself

Tonakaan, jade of wisdom

tonati=sun in nahuatl, kaan=snake in maya yucateco

tonakaan is a mix of multiple deities as the feathered snake is a constant symbol in mesoamerican cultures, it represents both the earthly (the snake) and the heavenly (the feathers).
quetzalcoatl and K’uk’ulkan mainly

chapuleaf: a lil cricket camouflaging as corn, inspired by a statue in chapultepec
blitzcuintli: a xoloitzcuintle (or mexican bald dog) puppy
achokelp: an achoque (salamanders similar to axolotls) camouflaging as lake vegetation

time to pick a buddy to accompany you in your journey, will it be the cornfield cricket chapuleaf? the friendly and fiery blitzcuintli? or the lake salamander achokelp?

lutortuga and laudracon are based on the leatherback seaturtle, specifically on their spanish name "tortuga laud" (lute tutle), its not unique to mexico but like in the rest of the world its endangered due to ocean pollution and mistreatment of its eggs by tourist when found in the beach
