I'm not sure how I'm supposed to fit everything I want to say into 300 characters, so I'll just say this.

𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒌 𝒚𝒐𝒖.

For sticking with me through all the times I've disappeared for months, or traumatised my characters, or taken 1000 words to say what I could have said with 10.

It means the world.

“I want it on the album,” Zac’s voice rang through the speaker. “Lead single. This is what we’ve been looking for.”

Teddy exhaled the tension that had been gnawing at him all day as Josie gasped, stunned. They held each other, neither quite believing what had just happened.

This was 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦-𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨.
December 4, 2025 at 7:36 PM
The song faded away. Zac’s final note hung in the air, igniting goosebumps along Josie’s arms, and for a moment, everyone was silent. Then, Sawyer turned to Dimetrice, barely hiding his satisfaction.

“What d’you think?”

“I think we’ve got a hit.”
December 4, 2025 at 7:24 PM
Josie laughed under her breath. “Maybe. It’s a good surprise, though.”

“Yeah? This is bigger than anythin’ I’ve done before. A lotta people could hear it. If it’s too much, too personal… We don’t have to go through with it, ‘kay?”

“No, let’s do it,” she beamed. “This is 𝘩𝘶𝘨𝘦, babe.”
December 4, 2025 at 7:17 PM
Completely bewildered, she spun in Teddy’s arms. “What is this?” she whispered.

“Wrote a song, thought it might sound good if it was a little heavier than my usual stuff, spoke to Sawyer and Zac…” Teddy murmured, trying hard to be casual about it. “Now we’re here. I probably shoulda warned you.”

For months, Teddy had been humming a tune; absentmindedly singing lyrics as he scribbled them in his notebook, plucking away on his guitar in the evenings when the ranch was quiet.
She’d hardly recognised it at first, but now she realised - Zac was singing Teddy’s song.
No, not singing.
𝘙𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨.

Slowly, his arms slipped around her waist, pulling her close. He sang along softly, his breath tickling her ear, making every hair stand on end as she relaxed into him. His voice made her melt, just like it always had.
All of a sudden, she knew exactly where she’d heard the song before.
December 4, 2025 at 6:51 PM
Something about the melody was vaguely familiar to Josie, though she couldn’t place it. It was too intense; not something she’d choose to listen to, but Zac’s voice drew her in. She focused on his words instead of the cacophony of instruments.
Behind her, she felt Teddy’s eyes boring into her.

Through the wide glass window, they watched as Zac took his place in front of the microphone, pulling out a sheet of paper from his jacket pocket.
Signalling to Dim that he was ready, the room filled with a pounding beat and screaming guitars, Zac’s voice unexpectedly low and soft in comparison.
December 4, 2025 at 6:35 PM
“Do 𝘯𝘰𝘵 touch anythin’,” Teddy commanded, glaring at the children until they promised to behave.

The studio was cosy, the smell of leather and cedarwood inviting them in, asking them to make themselves comfortable.

“Alright, Zac,” Dim said, smiling. “I’ve got a demo ready. Let’s get started.”
December 4, 2025 at 6:22 PM
The group crowded into the elevator before traipsing through seemingly endless hallways and offices, and Teddy’s nerves grew with every step they took.
He’d been in two minds about keeping this a secret from Josie, but he hadn’t wanted to get her hopes up if it didn’t work out...
December 4, 2025 at 6:09 PM
The four men turned and immediately cowered under Josie’s interrogative gaze.

“Ahh… babe,” Teddy stuttered, smiling sheepishly. “This is… We’re here to…”

“Perhaps you can explain upstairs, Teddy,” Sawyer suggested. “We’ve only got an hour, and we’ve got some work to do.”
December 4, 2025 at 6:00 PM
“Ted!” Zac called. “Come meet Dimetrice. This man is a magician.”

“Ahh c’mon,” he chuckled. He radiated warmth, and Teddy instantly liked him. “With a voice like yours? You make my job easy–”

Dimetrice stopped his praise dead; a woman pointedly clearing her throat interrupting the introductions.
December 4, 2025 at 5:54 PM
“You got old,” Sawyer teased, the lines around his eyes crinkling as he laughed.

“Yeah, twelve years and three feral kids’ll do that to ya.”

He glanced over Teddy’s shoulder. “This must be them… Any little child prodigies in the makin’? If they’ve got half of your talent…”
December 4, 2025 at 5:45 PM
“That’s…” Josie began, squinting to make sure she was seeing who she thought she was. “That’s Sawyer. Your dad’s producer, the man he sells his songs to. But, why is he…” she trailed off.

Next to her, Jess was barely containing her glee. “We should probably go say hi.”
December 4, 2025 at 5:32 PM
“Momma?” Annie asked, tugging on Josie’s shirt. “Who’s Daddy speakin’ to?”

Josie had been so lost in her conversation with Jess, she hadn’t noticed the men wandering away. Now, her eyes landed on Teddy, greeting a vaguely familiar figure.
It had been years, but she realised who he was with a jolt.
December 4, 2025 at 5:26 PM
Josie let out a low whistle of disbelief. “You’re stronger than me. I couldn’t do it.”

“Oh, he knows I’d kill him if he did anything.”

“Yeah, well, just give me a call if he does. I’ll help you hide the body.”

Jess snorted, linking arms with her sister. “Why do I feel like you’re being serious?”
December 4, 2025 at 5:16 PM
“I dunno how you deal with all that,” Josie murmured to her sister, low enough that the two men wouldn’t hear.

“The photographers or the girls?”

“Both. Mainly the girls.”

Jess shrugged, looking surprisingly nonchalant. “I trust him. I have to. I’d go crazy if I didn’t.”
December 4, 2025 at 5:10 PM
“You never listen to anything but ranch music, huh?” Zac chuckled.

“Never,” Teddy grinned. “I guess I'm gonna have to make an exception today.”

“Only today? 𝘖𝘶𝘤𝘩.”

“Yeah, we’ll see. Maybe you’ll convert me.” Teddy paused, scanning the vast hall. “D’you see them? I thought they’d be here waitin’.”
December 4, 2025 at 5:01 PM
Stepping into the studio’s lobby was like slipping underwater. All the noises from the chaotic street outside became muffled, replaced with low, rhythmic music and the quiet hum of introductions and business deals.
Teddy breathed out, his heart rate beginning to settle. “So y’all are 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘴 famous…”
December 4, 2025 at 4:50 PM
His path was blocked once again by a gaggle of blushing, giggly fans who squealed with excitement as he approached them. Teddy and Josie glanced at each other incredulously while they watched Zac sign autographs and lean in for selfies, flirting blatantly the entire time.
December 4, 2025 at 4:45 PM
Like starving predators spotting their unlucky prey, their attention turned to Zac.
Unphased by the gang that surrounded him, he posed for photos with a casual smirk that revealed years of experience in front of the camera. Sure that he’d given them what they wanted, he pushed through the crowd.
December 4, 2025 at 4:40 PM
The thing that stuck out to them the most was the photographers.
Loaded down with heavy equipment bags, they moved in packs, brandishing cameras like weapons as they chased after people the children didn’t recognise, screaming their names, their flashes blinding even in the cool winter sunlight.
December 4, 2025 at 4:36 PM
If the Hazelwood kids had thought Oasis Springs was a big city, they were mistaken.
Nothing could have prepared them for downtown Del Sol; the endless stream of traffic passing by with music blaring and horns honking, the bustling sidewalks packed with both tourists and locals. It was overwhelming.

Today's the day!

Two and a half years with Josie as heir comes to an end. I think she's more than ready for me to move on and leave her in peace, tbh 😂

Yesterday's update is on the feed! I'll see you later 👀
