an alarming lack of empathy and care for others. some of it may be compassion fatigue, sure. but i wonder if it's a massive collective wound from how cruelly our world leaders treated us. some may feel, society didnt care if i lived or died, why should i care about anyone else?
not to recommend "conflict is not abuse" (by sarah schulman) for the billionth time, but she makes a beautiful insight about how traumatized people sometimes take on traits of those who traumatized them. it's not lost on me that the biggest scar left on the world by covid seems to be --
it's not the governors and congresspeople who ignored warnings and policy advice from experts, letting you and your loved ones get sick and live in isolation, who are responsible for the scars it left on you. it's the woke scold hall monitors who refuse to let it go and like living in fear!
there's been a rather ingenius, insidious, deliberate effort via propaganda and social messaging to get people to shift their anger and trauma about covid away from the officials who failed them, to the people asking them to mask.
Hey everybody look at this disgusting piece of trash human who wants disabled people to completely exit society and doesn’t understand how community care works.

“Don’t expect the world to take care of you” is a depraved way to exist in society.

In addition to resuming airstrikes, Israel has also announced it will again prevent the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
"The fear now among people here is that the [Israeli attacks] are endangering an already fragile ceasefire across the Strip."

Al Jazeera's Hani Mahmoud reports on the wave of Israeli air attacks across Gaza after Israel accused Hamas of ceasefire violations.
like, ai that can supplement radiologists' ability to review hundreds, dozens, thousands of scans for patients or studies? AMAZING.
i think of it like backup cameras and other car technology: i love it for when human senses, diligence, and cognition fail, but it should not take the place of skill. im glad i have it to supplement human limitation, not overtake human brainpower.
most of my criticisms of generative AI and LLMs come from the behaviors of people in group 1. overuse, resource waste, and terrible labor practices.
that kentuckian trilobite is 6 years older than my grandma was when she passed and i am not a good enough person to feel anything but bitter and angry about it.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

does anyone ever stop to think that maybe americans sometimes lack shared culture because our capitalist shills try to beat them out of us like this at every turn
we dont want a lecture about nutrition or practicality. BUT ALSO, this reeks of shifting blame to consumers and guilting us about enjoying a drink that's a shared cultural touchpoint now.
the fact that my knee jerk reaction to this headline was "eff you, i want my coffee" is probably also peak american.
i saw this exact post last time the bills won too!

There's no "regular politics" anymore because you can no longer maintain the idea that we all agree on common goals but we only differ about the means of getting there or whatever. The guys in charge now are plainly amoral, sadistic nihilists. They delight in it! You can't civilly disagree with that

From the comments on this, it seems like most folks don’t know just how close Trump and Netanyahu are, or that their relationship goes back to the 1980s:
looking at the account's other posts i'd say probably

On strikes, boycotts, and rethinking leverage when the government WANTS the economy to collapse:

sometimes when they're being stubborn or mean, it's not because theyre frustrated with you, they're frustrated at being powerless and limited and you're the only one that they trust enough to take it out on. and trust me, i know it sucks.
