It's easier to overlook something imperfect, I think, and give it slack. Like a Godzilla movie, I don't expect Oscar bait. The better something is, the more crushing it is to fall JUST short of perfection. An annoying mechanic or missing feature (especially core ones) can trip highly polished games.
