All of these priorities (teacher pay, instructional support positions, etc) are part of the Leandro Plan that they’re supposed to be advocating for (and nothing in the Leandro Plan is conditional on revenue availability)

“Altogether, the state received 92 applications totaling nearly $2 billion”

It would be great if the article had mentioned that, under the Leandro Plan, state leaders were supposed to issue a $2bn school construction bond

Under the Leandro Plan, state leaders were legally obligated to improve teacher diversity by implementing the recommendations from Gov Cooper’s DRIVE Task Force. It’s unclear why the story below withholds this relevant information.

It's great to read about the ingenuity & resiliency of school leaders finding new ways to deliver basic mental health services to students. But again, it would be great if articles like this would note how the Leandro Plan would address these issues if legislators would simply fund the Plan

A comprehensive budget must fully fund the Leandro Plan, right?
I am signing Senate Bill 449 to keep our state running.

But this mini budget is just simply not enough, the legislature needs to pass a full budget now. That is what North Carolinians deserve.

Under Leandro, the state is obligated to study subsidy rates and fund a system that is aligned with actual costs and eliminates the waitlist. NCGA leaders have shirked that constitutional obligation. It's unclear why journalists fail to consider this relevant context.

The biggest consequence is that 1.5 million public school students continue to have their constitutional rights violated because lawmakers are failing to adhere to the court order calling on them to fully fund the Leandro Plan.

It's unclear why @dawnbvaughan.bsky.social forgot this.

A late budget is common. What's not common is to see legislators wantonly violating court orders. It's not common for a legislator's son to be ruling whether his dad is violating the constitutional rights of 1.5 million students. Neither should be overlooked or normalized.
