Whilst the introduction of new trains is welcome, it should be noted that the ICE sets being used have a lower seating capacity than the trains they are replacing, and it is likely that some journeys on this popular route may become more crowded.
From Saturday November 18, Intercity services between Amsterdam and Berlin (ERT Table 22) will be reclassified as ICE and will be operated by ICE trains. Schedules will remain unchanged for now, however an ICE supplement of €3 will now be payable on single tickets.

Czech open-access operator Leo Express has revealed that it will use the Talgo VI trains it recently leased on a new service from Praha to Bratislava which will start on April 30, 2026. Initially there will be two return services each day.

SJ will withdraw its Stockholm – Berlin overnight service at the end of August 2026 following the proposed withdrawal of government subsidy, however open-access operator Snälltåget is looking in to the possibility of running its own Berlin service on more dates.

The electrification and modernisation of the Marchegg line is now complete on both sides of the Austrian - Slovak border. From October 11, cross-border trains will run again, connecting Vienna and Bratislava in under an hour.

The province of Bolzano has decided not to renew its contract with ÖBB to operate the daily return Wien – Bolzano Railjet service. The service will end in December 2026, at which point an hourly local service between Innsbruck and destinations in Südtirol will be introduced.
Services on the new high-speed railway between Novi Sad and Subotica in Serbia are due to start at midday tomorrow! The start of services has been delayed due to issue with the infrastructure.

This should bring the journey time down to approximately 7 hours 30 minutes. Additional connections from Poland to Lithuania are being planned.

LTG Link and PKP Intercity are working together to reduce the journey time of the Warszawa – Vilnius train by approximately one hour from the December timetable change.
From January 15, 2026 the Caledonian Sleeper overnight service between London and Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William will call at Birmingham International, the biggest change to the train’s operation for over 30 years.

Due to the withdrawal of French government subsidies, the Paris – Wien/Berlin Nightjet service will stop running in December, leaving France without any international sleeper trains.
