Trump is using pardons in the same way he has used other parts of his public office: not as a demonstration of reasoned mercy, but as an opportunity to extract benefits for himself, his family or supporters.

And, I'm totally supportive of calling it a Kavanaugh Stop, because he was the guy who wrote it, but let's not forget that he had five other colleagues who said nothing — at least four of whom joined the order to form a majority giving the go-ahead for this racist lawlessness.
