showed him how dicts as default arguments to python functions worked and he spit up all over himself
this is making me realize there probably are kids named that for the proglang and that is mildly concerning
just explained golang nil interfaces to my son and he started sobbing. "why would they do that, daddy?"
realizing I can start doing that "woke child" genre of posts everyone hates. instead of politics I will do it about computer stuff
anyone using @tangled.org spindles for rust projects and have config they can point me at? anyone running the server with systemd?? new to all of this and would love to see someone's setup in action
guy who self-hosts everything on a server in his closet: haha did AWS go down?
I strongly hold the belief that AWS should go down during business hours and not 2am
sometimes I want to quote the classic onion "fuck everything, we're doing 5 blades" headline but looked it up and it's from 2004 and not the relevant cultural touchstone it is in my head
6am giving him his alotted 5 minutes of mental enrichment
completely unforgivable that they remastered the entire halo series then left out the only fucking feature that matters
if you are like me and upset no games seem to have local split screen modes anymore this thing whips ass. played a ton of halo 2 with it last night and it's a delightful hack nucleus-coop.github.io
Nucleus Co-Op
Adds remarkably smooth split-screen functionality to hundreds of PC games.

woke up at 6am for my baby shift only to discover the coffee maker failed due to some issue with its water pump so I punched it and now it works ☺️
an hour walking with my son in the mornings then an hour at the gym or biking in the afternoon has done wonders for my mental state and I still have some free time. I go to bed at 9pm these days tho
I’m retreating back to microcontrollers where my memory is static and there’s no strings
goddamnit once I figure out how to use strings without stepping on a rake constantly I'm going to become so powerful
realistically if I were to do a huge project this way (I really want to! I’m testing the waters!) I’ll probably give in and build a lightweight react thing and just back it with an API because it’d be a lot easier to build in what little free time I have
I think I want to build something like ActionView components (why did this never get absorbed by rails btw?) as a toy project because I think it’s a good idea. maybe someone has built a framework for the view layer that goes beyond basic templating already tho
building a web thing in rust has been really interesting because all the things I’m used to being mildly annoying/difficult (async, routing, DB access) have been easy and the table stakes stuff (templating, view helpers) has been a lot of wheel reinvention and tedium
this is legit how every single story people from the 70s tell me sounds. prolific people whose start was just walking in and asking to work somewhere, etc.
bottle feeding/consoling my son while being active on a work call and worried I might accidentally start making shushing sounds with the mic on
nothing makes me feel older than tuning into something on twitch
I would give anything for one that doesn’t start doing this at 2am. I go pull them all down in a fit of rage in the middle of the night every time
once again begging my smoke alarms to run low on batteries during the day. I understand why they're designed like this but if it can run for weeks before needing a battery change maybe let's not treat it like the end of the world
fucking hate driving to boulder. stupid city that intentionally makes itself annoying to get to.
buying a weird piece of music equipment (for research) from a guy in boulder who refuses to ship to me. I give in and meet in person (it's an inconvenient drive) and he sends me an address that's next door to a post office. c'mon man
