After the 14:30 mark in the 2nd half, Michigan scored on 21 straight possessions, spanning over 12 minutes.
Michigan was trailing Northwestern by 16 with 14 mins to play and won by 12. What changed?

Michigan played its two bigs together much more than typical -- almost the entire rest of the game -- and only switched 1 through 3 on defense.

Didn’t think Michigan had a game this bad in them tbh

Michigan was just a good offensive rebounding team the first 2 months of the season, despite its size. Since its West Coast trip, Michigan has been *elite.*

Michigan rebounded 40.8% of its misses in those 8 games -- 7th best in NCAA.

Allows them to reach another level offensively.

Wisconsin got jobbed bad down the stretch of both OT and regulation. Sheesh

Sacramento’s asset management is just so bad.

They arguably sent out the best player in the deal AND gave up draft picks to do so.

May need to break this down. Michigan ran two plays to lead them to the road dub.
When your only offense is Jeremy Fears foul baiting and Izzo yelling at the refs, you know you’re screwed.

Near-perfect defensive half from Michigan until the last 45 seconds.

Michigan’s first 5 minutes of defense vs. Indiana was as dominant as you’ll see at *any level* of basketball.

Indiana only got to the paint one(!) time — 4:30 into the game — and didn’t score all 5 minutes.

Watch how Michigan did it:

Braden Smith is a bad, bad man

Michigan had a fantastic defensive gameplan and execution on Lamar Wilkerson — switching & denying/top-locking off the ball and heavy in gaps on-ball — and was close to as perfect you could expect on that end the first 30 minutes.

I probably undersold the first part some — which is mostly scheme. Wisconsin deserves a ton of credit for taking Michigan out of its base scheme.

From there, Michigan’s defensive execution the last ~15 minutes just wasn’t good enough.
People are going to talk about Wisconsin's threes, guarding a stretch 5, their pick & pop... and those were all factors, but Michigan lost that game because after it went to switching 1 thru 5, it miscommunicated switches all over the place and wasn't able to contain the ball

Diabolical timing for @kenpom.com to drop a new feature on the site — average 2-point attempt distance.

Michigan ranks 27th in average 2PA distance on offense and (unexpectedly) 1st on defense.
