Hi #PortfolioDay, I'm Alison, an artist and sometimes writer from London, UK, and I draw comics, book covers and editorial. Can't show you the sequentials I'm drawing right now but I'm open for covers (especially books), comic writing and to discuss the next thing.

Detroit came in too hot and were two or three mistakes away from keeping game competitive. (Which, those mistakes are the difference between championship winners and, well, Detroit, but the Chiefs didn’t look infallible in that game.)

Shakespeare is one of—if not THE—greatest writers of the English language.

Romeo & Juliet is hot garbage.

My grandfather liked to brag that he’d mow a lawn for a quarter and for 25 cents you could see two movies and buy a popcorn. This was in the 1930s, and stuff now costs more than it used to.

Apply all this to the "why can't comic books be $1" arguments.

This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵

The last time comics were a buck, the best-selling titles were approaching or exceeding >a million copies/month. And $1 in 1991 is equivalent to about $2.40 today.

Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

Picked this up from the @ministryofbrewing.bsky.social Pints and Pages Book Fair (specifically from the @dreamersbmore.bsky.social table). This anthology edited by @joecorallo.bsky.social and @ericpalicki.bsky.social is a deadly horror tale with a music twist!

NYCC is sometimes defined by all the friends I didn’t see, or didn’t see ENOUGH, and this year was no different, but I’m going home creatively invigorated and ready to make some new comics for you to read.
