I used floppy, floppy disk, but i think most of all floppy diskette. But that might just be because I went to French Canadian elementary school and in French, “disque” meant a CD and “disquette” meant a 3.5” or 5.25” floppy. So yes everyone called them floppies in English.

People out buying $50-200 Bluetooth speakers or smart speakers... I just picked up a set of these for $15, put it together with an old phone that has a 3.5mm jack and boom (literally) huge sound for under $20. Plus no phone calls interrupting the music, no Al*xa no Goo**e assistant, no pairing.

yeah it's kinda sad/annoying, there's really so much American content... i think other countries didn't flee the TwitterX as much. Ironically my feed over there has now gotten less politicized.

📧 Years before Google, “Gmail” was a fan email service on Garfield․com; perfect for anyone who hates Mondays.

It vanished like lasagne into Garfield's belly, but pawprints remain on the #WaybackMachine ⤵️

Phones with OLED screens finally becoming mainstream/affordable, making it possible to make the black bars truly black and invisible in the dark.
YouTube: enables *ambient mode* so you can see the notch/hole punch in your display better.

Pour one out for my Pixel 4a 5G 😭

You can were never a flagship but you had a headphone jack and a beautiful OLED display in a thin and light package.

Remember the flashbacks at the beginning of The Handmaid‘s Tale, where the main character saw the signs that the United States was morphing into a freedom – suffocating authoritarian country?

This is it.

Sure there’s value, I’d just be concerned about the personal data handling-can’t really see a way for it to be secure, easy, and actually affordable for small sites. I hope I’m proven wrong.

Do we really want something like Equifax for online age verification? Or forced Google/Facebook verified account sign-in?
