There's a few reasons I'm especially proud of this update. But one that sticks out is that it marks the expansion of the Huckleberry Outfit by 4 new writers! I have loved seeing the ways they took the mechanics of Huck and put their own spin on them. It's taught me quite a bit about my own design!

bonus! my names were constructed in hanja and romanized. for those curious:

Joseongyin: 鳥聲人 (bird voice person)
Joyaga: 鳥夜家 (bird night house; with a large enough flock, i imagine the sky darkens as if it's night)
Yaju: 夜 (night) + 주 (for province/state)
Chun Jo Do: 千鳥道 (thousand bird way/teaching)

i don't want to spoil too much of the content, but for a sneak preview: joseongyin can pursue an art called chun jo do, which allows you to choose skills based on hwa rang do's understandings of the five senses of ki. feel free to speculate on how i translated these if you haven't seen already >:)

Kyung Ki- making the body light
Jung Ki- making the body heavy
Chyel Ki- making the body hard as steel

hwarang were taught both martial arts and spirituality by buddhist monks, and though they were disbanded during the joseon dynasty, their teachings continue in hwa rang do, a still extant form of martial arts. i decided to draw on this to keep within the "fantasy silla" flavor.

also present in silla were hwarang ('flowering youths'), warriors noted for their beauty and education. they and their predecessors, wonhwa, focused on philosophy and art as a means to better themselves.

one of the highlights of gyeongju is cheomseongdae, the oldest surviving astronomical observatory in asia, built in the 7th century under queen seondeok. i based joyaga, the tower in which the joseongyin work and where their flock of divine sparrows lives, on this monument.

gyeongju is a city along the south-east coast of south korea and is mostly known for its historical significance as the capital of silla, one of korea's ancient kingdoms. its equivalent in tx+, yaju, is less illustrious in origin but draws significantly from its history.
