Cutting climate rules will worsen air quality, increase health risks, and create costly instability for states and businesses working toward clean energy goals.
envirointegrity.bsky.social
For instance, in Oregon, removing them would make meeting legally binding emission reduction targets nearly impossible, according to officials.

States are warning that rolling back vehicle standards would force them to seek other means of reducing greenhouse gas emissions as well as pollutants that contribute to ozone, particulate matter, and air toxics.

The EPA plans to stop regulating climate pollution from cars and trucks, aiming to overturn the 2009 endangerment finding that links greenhouse gases to public health harms. www.eenews.net/articles/epa...

This study confirms that climate change is fueling more destructive, costly wildfires. We need bold action to cut emissions, or the wildfire crisis will continue to escalate, putting lives, health, and economies at risk.
envirointegrity.bsky.social
Human-driven climate change has made the costliest wildfires four times more frequent than in the 1980s. “It shows without a doubt that we do have a major wildfire crisis on our hands,” said Calum Cunningham, lead author and pyrogeographer at the University of Tasmania in Australia.

A new study published in the journal Science finds there is a "climate-linked escalation of societally disastrous wildfires." The study measured wildfire impacts by calculating the economic and human damage they caused, rather than the more common acres-burned measurement. apnews.com/article/wild...

Application filed to build massive natural gas-fired power plant southwest of Fort Worth

news.oilandgaswatch.org/template/bri...
Application filed to build massive natural gas-fired power plant southwest of Fort Worth On Sept. 19, Houston-based energy company NRG applied to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for an air permit that would allow the construction of its proposed NRG Tolar Power Center, a new gas-fired power plant with about 2 gigawatts of generating capacity. The plant could be capable of generating roughly the same pollution as a coal-fired power plant or more than 850,000 gasoline-powered cars and trucks driven for one year.

The continued shutdown will stall critical climate progress and impede essential climate research.
envirointegrity.bsky.social
EPA’s shutdown plan shows just 1,734 employees would remain during a funding lapse — 828 are exempt from appropriations and 906 staff handling statutory duties or public safety, including disaster response teams, are essential — while the rest of the workforce would be furloughed.
envirointegrity.bsky.social
Since the shutdown began last week, many climate-related operations have been put on hold. EPA hasn’t furloughed staff yet, but once funds run out, the agency is expected to keep only about 10% of its workforce active. www.eenews.net/articles/how...

Allowing industry insiders to oversee environmental policy puts corporate profits ahead of public health and safety.

The report covers the fossil fuel ties of Cabinet members like Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, as well as lesser-known nominees like Audrey Robertson, a former fracking executive nominated to lead the DOE’s efficiency and renewable energy office.
envirointegrity.bsky.social
A review of 111 Trump administration appointees across agencies like the EPA found 43 with fossil fuel industry ties and 12 linked to right-wing think tanks, many funded by oil interests, raising concerns about industry influence over energy and environmental policy.

Companies plan 111 miles of new natural gas pipeline across central Mississippi Two companies owned by New York-based conglomerate Loews Corporation are planning to extend new natural gas pipelines across central Mississippi. Gulf South Pipeline Company and Texas Gas Transmission applied with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on Sept. 12 to build the Kosciusko Junction Pipeline and Columbia Gulf Lateral. The project consists of 102 miles of new 36-inch pipe from Attala County to Clarke County, along with a separate 8 miles of new 36-inch pipe in Humphreys and Sunflower counties.

Avoiding words like “green,” “decarbonization,” or “emissions” doesn’t erase the reality of climate change. These issues will continue to remain urgent and must be addressed with honesty, not censorship.
envirointegrity.bsky.social
Staff have been instructed to avoid these words deemed “misaligned with the Administration’s priorities” in both internal and public communications, including reports, briefings, and federal funding requests.
envirointegrity.bsky.social
In yet another move by the Trump Administration to dispute and downplay climate change, the Department of Energy added words like "green" and "decarbonization" to its list of words to avoid at the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). www.politico.com/news/2025/09...

Public hearing planned Oct. 14 on draft permits for 7 carbon wells in West TX

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a virtual public hearing on Oct. 14 on draft permits that would allow Orchard Storage Company to inject up to 2.5 million metric tons of CO2 per year into seven carbon storage wells in Gaines County, Texas.

Instead of delaying pollution rules and pouring money into coal, we should be investing in clean energy that protects public health. Pouring money into the coal industry only worsens pollution, cancer risks, and climate impacts when safer alternatives are available.
envirointegrity.bsky.social
The Energy Department also announced it would provide $625 million to support coal projects, which includes recommissioning and retrofitting plants for near-term power.
envirointegrity.bsky.social
At the same time, the Interior Department announced it plans to open 13.1 million acres of federal land for coal leasing in parts of North Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana.
