If you lead, you write.

If you fundraise, you write.

If you speak, you write.

If you report, you write.

Writing isn't just for "writers" in social impact work. It's the foundation for all social change.

The best #nonprofit leaders are often the ones who don’t crave power and didn’t set out to be “leaders”.

(If you don't know the Benchmarks report, you will love it.)
The report is in its 20th year. They know what they're doing, which is probably why they don't just whip off another.

It's a timely reminder that it takes time to find your insights, frame them, and figure out how to present them in compelling and memorable ways.
Are you setting aside enough time to create great reports?

"We start in late summer for a late-April launch" says @mrcampaigns.bsky.social about its annual nonprofit communications benchmarks report.

This astounding point is buried in the last paragraph of an article about their process.

Why do you get asked for different versions of your impact report, when you've just created a great one?

Because people want to hear what you have to say!

Here's why reporting whack-a-mole is a good thing, and how you can make it easier to collect and remix impact measurement information:

Sure, defining your organization’s impact feels less urgent than everything else on your plate.

But here's what happens when you skip it: scattered resources, wasted effort, burnout, and work that feels hard ALL the time.

It's worth some time to prevent all that.

Can AI teach us about training humans?

AI is an environmental issue. Your organization's AI use policy needs to be linked to your sustainability and procurement policies. The footprint of these data centres is your footprint, too.
I'm not seeing quite as many people here as I used to claiming that "the energy implications of AI are so small it's not worth talking about" but that was a wild thing to say 6 months ago and it would be even wilder now.
One study concluded 70% of increased electric cost across US due to AI data centers.
