The hippalectryon is so named because it has a horse-like front half and a rooster-like back half. This flightless relative of the pegasus is one of the primary grazers of the Antarctic steppe, and gathers in great numbers during spring to lek. Dwarfs call it "kjukhross".

Pseudodragons are ambush predators. In the wild, once prey is spotted, the pseudodragon will take off and hit its quarry with a high-temp blast of fire. Once caught, the prey is cooked with low-temp fire on a pre-burned patch of dirt called a "stage." It is then consumed. #Smaugust #Smaugust2025

Here are the behavior charts, all together. As you can see, the hunter's cooking instinct has been diminished; For the lighter and stoker, all steps are diminished except the fire shot/cooking, respectively accentuated. All 3 domesticated breeds are now fed by humans, instead of feeding themselves.

The wild pseudodragon has been developed into a number of distinct breeds by humans, specialized for different purposes: lighting candles, stoking hearths, and hunting game—an art known as "draconeering." These breeds have come about by selecting for behavior as well as appearance.

I draw them as carnivorous little buggers who live in troops, hunt a wide variety of quarries (including man, for sport AND food...) and spend their free time napping in the sun.
