Nihal gets it. Women should be included in history lessons - it helps boys develop empathy and understand women’s perspectives. Check out our new research into the History curriculum - endsexisminschools.org.uk/campaign-pro...

Including more women and girls in the taught curriculum will help keep working class girls engaged in school and show them what they can become.

Great article. A gender balanced curriculum so girls can see themselves in lessons would address some of these issues.

“59% of history lessons at key stage 3 did not mention women at all” and
“when women were mentioned, the report found they were more often victims than protagonists, with the women murdered by Jack the Ripper more likely to be taught […] than the female code breakers at Bletchley Park”

So no chance to learn about female perspectives and experiences. This is so sad.

We’d love to hear more about this committee and what happened! We will be doing research into the Science curriculum too.
endsexisminschools.bsky.social
How can we encourage History teachers to use these?
endsexisminschools.bsky.social
It would be nice if girls could see themselves in the past too.
endsexisminschools.bsky.social
It’s on our list to look into this!
endsexisminschools.bsky.social
Yes! Let’s brighten up the curriculum and make it more relatable by including women.
