For me, it was especially fascinating to hear @emmyailish.bsky.social's argument about the divided skirt in hockey as a material reflection of tensions about women’s bodies & athletic identities.

Lots of crossover with cricket, which was of course played in skirts until the 1990s! #BSSH2025

Found this 1936 cycle speedometer advert today and interested to know more about changes in technology and sport practices.
As a 24/7 Garmin wearer, I’m intrigued by the history of fitness / activity trackers- technologies used and how their purpose has been presented to the public via marketing.

For its December edition, The Hockey Museum renamed its ‘Hockey Shorts’ newsletter ‘Hockey Stockings’ with this as its leading piece- My first piece of PhD related writing for a public audience. I must try and find out what happened the next time Wales and England played- who wore the red stockings?
