As a trans woman and a fan of the verge for a long time, this truly excites me to see. I wish we weren’t in a world where these pieces were needed, but it means a lot to see a media outlet give voices to trans people.

Today for @theverge.com, I talk about transfem narratives: the epistemic lockout from mainstream publishing, the advantages and pitfalls of the self-pub model, and what a global transmisogynistic panic implies for our ability to make our voices heard and represent our own lives and worlds.
Trans women are building their own publishing world, and it’s under threat
Online communities are stepping in where traditional publishing stops.

I’m really loving that the verge has been publishing a string of articles by trans writers. It feels good to know at least one somewhat prominent website is giving trans people a voice.
Yup. There is an undertone of disbelief with it to me.
Yes, I know in the context of healthcare it tends to mean “to describe something that hurts or makes one feel ill”, but the broader connotation is often interpreted more negatively.
The medical note phrasing “complains of” really bothers me.

It isn’t a complaint or some trivial grievance being aired. It is their experience.

Especially silly with trauma. “C/O of stab wound”….that’s a thing that happened.
Park and the Whitney for a lovely Sunday.
Every now and then I walk through somewhere in my neighborhood and have a really magical experience with a sense of community where I’m reminded why I love NYC.

Had that in Tompkins Square Park this morning.
Sat in an EV sports bar earlier and it felt like I was doing an observational study.

Admittedly, most of the people I know here are straight, but I don’t hang out with them much.
Any zoom with me and you’ll have a very dumb but sweet black cat in the way.
Favorite part of his Wikipedia page.
Just to add: Tyler Cowen is a 63 year old married man.
I know it has been effective for them and it is totally the point, but I’m really getting tired of this “flood the zone” strategy and the nonstop lies/intentionally misleading statements.
I do this at home, but it is a bit different. (I also do pour over, French press, and aeropress depending on my mood at home.)
Yea, I have a machine for the reading room. I also have a hand burr grinder, aeropress, and electric kettle for when I have more time and want something a little more like regular coffee. As expensive as they are, it is faster and cheaper than the alternative.
Something I don’t think he understands is that rules of engagement are to protect OUR soldiers and interests as well.
I don’t think they cared.
“Can” is doing some heavy lifting in that statement.
NYC. Mostly a general ICE protest.
I know this wasn’t intentional, but as a hapless American who word flips all the time, thank you for providing an easy way for me to remember things.
Multiple times I’ve gotten on a train I never take and have bumped in to someone I know.
Anyway, if you ever want to join forces for photographing these things, let me know! It is kind of putting my AuDHD to work. 😂
I always feel weird about posting photos in places like IG knowing that meta would probably gladly give access for AI facial recognition and stuff.

Like, I know it is a public space & tons are taking photos, but still…
