That's exactly what I thought when I heard this announcement. It's meaningless! English A-Level?! It's a complex exam for people who are totally fluent in the actual language - not a practical language test.

It always feels so weird when it comes to George Gershwin copyright - the fact that he died in the 30s but Ira G died in the 80s, so anything they wrote together will be in copyright for very much longer. Plus all the legal shenanigans of the Gershwin estate...

No, "Summertime" by George Gershwin is still under copyright in the UK, as it's protected for 70 years after the composer's death. George Gershwin died in 1937, so his music will not enter the public domain until January 1, 2031. While his music is public domain in some other countries like the EU, it is still protected by copyright in the UK.

Not surprising at all to any instrumental teacher. The effect of a year of online lessons was very clear with my cello students in terms of tone production. It could all be reversed, with time, but it definitely was an issue.

My grandfather (who I never met) was born in 1895 and flew planes in WW1, and my granny (who I knew well) was born in 1908. It is definitely strange to think how close I am to the 19th century.
