The last one around here has just closed. The old fella died, and it died with him. A mile away from where I live now, in an ex colliery village. Like the one in the article, a literal time machine

We had a cobblers like this in the village I grew up in.

I was once tidying a drawer and found a repair ticket from 1976, uncollected. As a matter of interest, I took it back to him, to see if he still had the shoes.

He said they’d be ready on Thursday…

Tools, machinery, children’s boots and business ledgers lie as they were left in The Souter’s Shop in Royal Deeside, and now a grant will enable the building to be restored
