Does the Constitution Still Work?
Listen to this episode from The Briefing with Michael Waldman on Spotify. U.S. politics today can be defined by extreme dysfunction and polarization. But the founders accounted for a fractured society, and designed our government specifically to handle moments like these. Listen as conservative scholar Yuval Levin discusses his book, American Covenant: How the Constitution Unified Our Nation―and Could Again, which argues that the U.S. constitutional system is designed to compel us to find common ground and act together — and that the key is for Congress to play its leading role. Speakers: Yuval Levin, Director of Social, Cultural, and Constitutional Studies at the American Enterprise InstituteHost: Michael Waldman, President, Brennan CenterIf you enjoy this program, please give us a boost by liking it, subscribing, and sharing it with your friends.

December 4, 2025 at 4:11 PM

December 4, 2025 at 4:10 PM

5. Why is the press no being allowed to attend events on campus?
December 4, 2025 at 4:09 PM
We invite the media to ask the Dean if you see her:

3. Why is your presence required at protests by the student left? Why are you not doing the same at event by the right?
4. Why is the free speech area at UTEP (Leech Grove) smaller than the average home plot in El Paso?
December 4, 2025 at 4:08 PM
We invite the media to ask the Dean if you see her:

1. Why is it so difficult for UTEP students to practice their 1st Amendment Rights on Campus?
2. Why are students being required to I.D. themselves to attend a counter-Tom Homan event at UTEP?
December 4, 2025 at 4:07 PM
Did you know UTEP is sending the Dean of Students, in person, to monitor actions of "radicals." Yesterday, Dean of Students was at Leech Grove like Big Brother (or Sister) making sure people don't use their First Amendments Rights. Intimidation?

We encourage media, local office holders, including our U.S. Representative, inquire with Dr. Heather Wilson’s office at (915) 747-5555/[email protected] or with UTEP Media Relations (915) 747-5526 regarding these matters of ICE and Border Patrol on campus.

International and Mexican national students are advised to use caution at UTEP. Because ICE has also attacked many U.S. citizens of color in recent months, and UTEP, by its own public media, touts the university as 84% Hispanic, UTEP students of color should be cautious.
December 4, 2025 at 3:03 PM
A Department of Homeland Security entourage is expected. The president's office has not indicated if ICE and/or Border Patrol will be doing immigration enforcement on the UTEP campus. Yet, neither the public nor the student population has been advised of possible immigration enforcement.
December 4, 2025 at 3:03 PM
As "Border Czar" Tom Homen visits UTEP, Dec. 4, we are discouraged that the UTEP President’s Office has not released any statement concerning the safety of UTEP students.
December 4, 2025 at 3:02 PM
International and Mexican national students are advised to use caution if participating in protests of Border Czar Tom Homan's visit to the UTEP campus.
December 4, 2025 at 3:00 PM
UTEP International and Mexican National students, are advised to stay clear of the UTEP campus today as the UTEP President has not advised the student population that ICE and Border Patrol will not being doing immigration enforcement on campus.

December 4, 2025 at 2:58 PM
December 4, 2025 at 2:58 PM
December 4, 2025 at 2:58 PM
UTEP students are advised to use caution in attending events that Student Engagement & Leadership Center will be I.D.ing students.
December 4, 2025 at 2:56 PM
Students are advised that UTEP may be building a database of "radical" students. The checking of I.D.s of students is most likely a "prior restraint" on UTEP students' First Amendments Rights of free speech and assembly.
December 4, 2025 at 2:54 PM
The El Paso National Lawyers Guild condemns the UTEP office of Student Engagement & Leadership Center for requirement of an I.D. check at a Dec. 4 Teach-In which may be organized in opposition to Border Czar Tom Homan's visit to the UTEP campus the same day.
