The end of the shutdown is really going to mess with my (unofficial) NaNoWriMo momentum. Farewell, midweek midday coffee shop visits. 😞

On top of everything else, we're learning that he's not exactly a master wordsmith.

DC-area folks! I'm selling a bunch of my grandmother's glassware, etc. She was a very class lady with exquisite taste (that didn't pass down to me.) Look me up (Elga Ozols) on Facebook marketplace for full listings (more to come), or DM me here. Pictured = a couple highlights.

I hit 20K words today for (unofficial) NaNoWriMo! Hope3 is coming along nicely! (knock on wood)

Has anyone tried the Spice Kraft Thanksgiving menu? Any feedback? Can you request spice levels? I have "non-adventurous eaters" coming to my house, but I think I could sell it if it's not spicy.

I have begun the draft of my next Hope the Little Fox novel, using the basic format from the beloved but now-defunct NaNoWriMo challenge: 50,000 words in 30 days. Want to follow my progress? Here's my rudimentary tracking spreadsheet:

Well hot dang... I've just learned that NaNoWriMo doesn't exist anymore. And here I was just sitting down to start up my next novel draft after not participating in a couple years. This is very disappointing.

Any Alexandria folks got a lead on places doing Thanksgiving take-out that you do NOT need to re-heat?
(I may re-ask this a few times as the date nears.)

Exhibit A for my belief that Rosemont could dominate Del Ray in a Halloween decorations duel.

They've announced the finalists for the Del Ray house decorating competition. In case anyone else likes to use these for a fun running/walking/biking/whatever adventure, I'm sharing my route map. A full loop is 3.3 miles.

I saw someone posting about John Brown since it's the anniversary of his raid on Harper's Ferry. Which makes me think today is an appropriate day to recommend one of my favorite books by my favorite author....

I am not thrilled that the Amazon algorithm things that this garbage is "related to" my beautiful novel about challenging gender norms and finding your place in the world.

My spouse took a bathroom break during our Home Depot trip and asked me to wait for him in the garden section. This happened instead.

This is not my house, but it is the best house. Kudos to whoever set up this masterpiece on Monroe Ave!

Ok, let's see if any of this survives the storms long enough for the day care to see it.
Still to do post-storms: all the flying/hanging ghosts.

Hot Take: The Del Ray Halloween house-decorating competition should expand its boundary to include Rosemont. WHO'S WITH ME?!
October 11, 2025 at 6:15 PM
I know a lot of folks are still home on furlough, and it's cold outside, which makes this the perfect time to snuggle up with a good book or two. I promise that the Hope the Little Fox series is the perfect blend of escapism and righteous indignation that you need right now.

I've just been informed that parents from the daycare by my house are "eagerly awaiting" my Halloween decorations. Presumably because the kids go on mini-field-trips past my yard every day in October to look at the werewolf. Glad to know I'm sparking joy for the youths.

Some good news in this shitty week: I am now famous!
"Gregory didn’t seem scared of humans, says Elga Ozols, who commutes to DC on the train and named the pigeon “Alexandria’s Very Fancy Bird” on Bluesky, frequently posting updates and photos."
