An example of a "Drawover" edit, in which one or more OCs takes the place of the existing character(s) in a screengrab/frame. The range of editing for something like this can vary drastically depending on your OC's body-type or desired pose, so the sky's the limit!

An example of a "Modification" edit, in which the character(s) in the provided screengrab has their pose/proportions/features/etc. altered in some way. In this shot, only a single character has been modified (guess which one 😘), but all three characters could have been modified for $45 each, or an OC could have been added/Drawnover one of the existing characters.

An example of a "Recontextualized" edit, in which an existing screengrab is significantly altered in such a way that the original context of the shot has been entirely changed. In this case, Beefcake!Stygian (the horse looking at his rear) and Smol!Rockhoof (the little guy on far right) were either added in from another shot or drawn/"built" from scratch, with the shot of Starswirl being the only original element of the screengrab.

An example of a "Unique" edit, in which the characters/background/other elements have been taken from entirely different sources and edited + combined to create a completely new image; in this case, a fake screenshot of an episode of MLP in which Rockhoof & Stygian are exposed to Poison Joke and swap body types 😉

I originally formulated my main ponysona, Sugarbee "Newt" Apple, off of a Pixiv image generator of myself as a horse that I sloppily adapted for a "concept ref" (where you can see his original name!), which served as the basis for my very first MLP comm, from @plasticrarity.bsky.social 🥰

The original Pixiv image I made back in roughly 2018. I had originally planned to make myself a horse sona but that fell by the wayside and I wound up mostly using this as a reference for various horse TFs of myself lol

The concept ref of Earl N. Meier (hence the Erlenmeyer flask cutie mark, geddit 😏) that eventually evolved into Newt. This was made completely in the Samsung Galaxy Gallery Editor by drawing overtop a random r63/genderbend picture of Applejack 😅 it took 10+ hours lol

The first official pic of Newt Apple ever truly drawn 🥰 the mare on his left is a ponysona of Miley, tentatively named "Ginger Gold", that I have not gotten nearly as much art of for some reason 😅 I'll have to change that!

Newt's lore was fun: pomologist cousin of AJ, initially working temporarily at Sweet Apple Acres to study Zap Apples, met/began dating Rainbow Dash and then started a herd with her and Zephyr Breeze (see Alt Text for lore dumps) 🥰

Newt first met Rainbow Dash after being use by AJ as a temporary cider storage tank (don't ask 😂). Dash tried to sneak some outta Newt by kissing him...but wound up getting nearly as blimped as he was. After they came down to size she asked him out on a proper date and the rest was history 🥰

Eventually they were going steady and created a "herd" together. What's a herd, you may ask? Good question!

In my interpretation of MLP canon, I see polyamorous relationships, aka "herds", as being more normalized since...well, ponies are herd animals 😂 thus monogamy amongst ponies is actually rare and more of a interspecies thing than anything else, though griffins/hippogriffs/yaks/etc. join herds as well~

Typically herds are structured with a "head stallion/mare", the pony whom all members share a romantic relationship with in some capacity, and tend to be as small as 3 or as large as 5-6 members at any given time, with the larger ones mostly being common amongst Earth ponies whereas pegasi/unicorns are typically just throuples 😉

The name "herd" can be used for any occasion but usually means a polyship of mixed tribes, with herds made up of a single tribe being called "flocks" (pegasi), "castes" (unicorns), or "posses" (Earth ponies) 🥰

As for hierarchy, the only rigid "rule" is that to be a part of the herd, you're pursuing a relationship with the head pony. You don't have to pursue a relationship with any other members but many do simply because they have enough in common thru being with the head pony that it's inevitable.

If 2 or more members decide they feel more attraction towards each other than with the head pony anymore, it's socially acceptable to break away and form their own separate herd, with the only caveat being relocating to a unique location away from the old herd (nothing personal, just similar to moving out of an old apartment basically)

Similarly, if over time the group dynamic shifts so that another herd member becomes the more pursued pony for romantic intentions amongst the others, that pony can be made the head pony by the others~

Zephyr wound up joining the NewtDash herd completely by accident: he bumped into Newt at his sister's cottage and Newt immediately became smitten with him, leading to a whirlwind courtship and eventual relationship. At first RD wasn't a huge fan of Zephyr joining the group, considering his past pursual of her, but eventually she came around after he made up to her for it...though poor Zeph is still a bit "scaroused" of her when Newt isn't around to play peacemaker 😅
