As you go deeper underwater, water absorbs light unevenly long wavelengths like red disappear first, while shorter ones like blue penetrate farther.
That’s why deep or shadowy areas appear bluish: blue light travels best underwater.

Pistol shrimp create one of the most surprising sounds in the ocean:
a rapid snap of their claw generates a collapsing cavitation bubble releasing a sharp “pop”
powerful enough to stun prey.

Working on a game built around whale-like songs has side effects:
sometimes the whole team ends up singing out loud while testing the sound-based puzzles.
It helps. (Well… we think it helps.) 🐋

We rebuilt this menu to make it clearer, more readable, and closer to Wavekin’s visual identity.

when it’s wrong, everybody does. 😅

Some coral reefs produce faint crackling and popping sounds and new research shows these soundscapes help larvae find healthy reefs. A study found that coral larvae swim toward reefs with richer acoustic signatures, even in complete darkness.

Underwater environments are beautiful… but they’re also tricky to make readable.
Too much detail: visual noise.
Not enough: everything feels empty.
We’re still tuning the balance between mystery, exploration, and clear navigation here’s a slice of the process

Designing this ecosystem took a mix of biology inspiration, weird sketches, and way too many iterations.

Deep-sea shrimp don’t just see in the dark they evolved eyes tuned to bioluminescent light.
A 2025 Nature Communications study shows their vision adapts to the faint glow of nearby organisms in near-total darkness.
