happy systems reading group about simdjson :)

++ a couple more people out of frame, what a nice turnout for learning about hella fast performance engineering tricks

you know that rust has won because unlike a few years ago, people don’t talk about rewriting stuff in rust anymore. it’s just a sensible, ordinary thing to write systems software in rust

welp, github added an autofocusing ai copilot input box on the homescreen, i do not like this one bit.

also github has historically been good about accessibility, who decided to use autofocus in this way?

update on my weekend adventure: differentiable svg rasterization is hard, due to bezier paths not having analytical solutions

read a 2020 paper (diffvg) on monte carlo solutions to backprop, had friend from MIT graphics to help, we understand now! want to try implementing in JAX

ok unfortunately it seems like std::autodiff / enzyme-rust isn't able to differentiate through loops, or vector/array operations which kind of makes it hard to do any linear algebra :(

even differentiating through vec![x; 64].iter().sum() is too hard

hmm there are like 3 people on this app that make up my feed right now

probably wait it out for a month or two and see if it gets any broader

i actually really liked twitter a couple years ago when i was smaller and my circles were smaller, but times change, no use fighting the world

woah automatic differentiation in rust actually works! :o — had to try it to believe it. going to play with this a bit and see what I can differentiate

happy Thanksgiving y’all, sending love and warm food :)

I found the signs at the airport today had surprisingly good type. look at the P in Tampa, nice and snug bbox overlap with Florida, and the diagonals
