Couldn't decide on the final colors this time because I rather like both versions.

Animal Artober starts tomorrow!

Here is a throwback to last year's collection, that included this hybrid of a giraffe and a python! This was the only animal I got around to coloring last year, using colored pencils.

#hybridanimal #giraffe #snake #animalartober
Colored pencil drawing of a giraffe and python hybrid. Coloring is much like a Ugandan giraffe, with scale textures. The body is mainly that of a python coiled on a large branch, but the head is more like a giraffe, including the iconic horn-like ossicones on the top of its head.

With Animal Artober approaching in a few days, here is a throw back to 2022, when I first joined Animal Artober with a series of hybrid animals. Two favorites from the set!

Manatee + Alligator
Red Lionfish + Florida Panther

#hybridanimal #animaldrawing #coloredpencilart #traditionalart
A colored pencil drawing of a hybrid creature that is a mix of manatee body, fins, nose, and tail w/ alligator eyes, jawline, and ridges. The body is mostly gray like a manatee, with greens of moss on the body and some darker gray scales patterning upper areas of the body and front fins. Hybrid of Red Lionfish and Florida Panther. Colored pencil drawing features a mother and two cubs. The cubs have bodies and markings of young mountain lion cubs, but with coloring more like a red lionfish and spiny fins on the back of their legs and running down their back. They also have fins on the sides of their faces. The fins are more developed on the mother, who has flowing fins on the legs, sides of the face, and tail. The long spiny fins of a lionfish rise from her back and her color and striped patterning on her body is like a red lionfish.
Some more colored pencil work from earlier this year.

This is Randall, an Android bard, who brings some Firefly-inspired flare to his DnD game. The player had some specific props in mind for his character, which is always a lot of fun to incorporate!

#TTRPG #android #bard #DnDart #traditionalart
A colored pencil drawing of a western-themed automaton.
He has glowing yellow eyes and some areas are covered in casing that are a rusted metal, with some blue paint on the portions of his body above the knees. His neck and lower torso are more exposed with greyer metals compared to the more bronze and golden metals of his casing sections.
He wears a floppy hat, a thin leather shoulder cape, and is playing a banjo. A rifle is slung over his back and an oil can hangs on his right side.
Thank you very much. <3
My first post was of an older piece, but here is a more recent work I finished. It is a colored pencil illustration of my current main character in Guild Wars 2 (I do RP/game on occasion!), a charr named Phaedra Growlchirp, who can speak with animals.

#GW2 #charr #traditionalart
A colored pencil illustration of my current main character, a charr named Phaedra Growlchirp who is walking toward the viewer. She is wearing deep green leather armor that has tan leathering sections and lavendar leaf and animal track embroidery details. Her feet, lower legs, and knees are protected with plate armor. She has markings similar to a pale golden tiger and her four ears are tufted like a caracal. Her top horns are long and twisted like a kudu antelope. Her mane is muted lavendar and styled in braids hanging over her right shoulder. A red reef drake walks besides her. He flanks her right, and he is large enough to reach her lower chest. A black long tailed widowbird flies over her right shoulder and a rose tarantula is on her upheld left forearm. Phaedra's face is turned to the tarantula with a friendly, listening expression.
Since this will be my first year on BlueSky, I should explain that I enjoy making hybrid animals inspired by episodes from the podcast Just the Zoo of Us.
In two previous Octobers, I shared ones I have been working on in daily posts for the month, coinciding with Artober (a daily art challenge).
A mostly black image with caption that reads "Hybrid Animal Artober is coming!" A small portion of the black is erased to reveal a peek at a hybrid creature. Something with four hands, fur in browns, blacks, and browns, and four yellow eyes peeking out of a furry head with small black ears.
This featured art is a piece from 2018, which I entered in the Character Design Challenge for the theme of "Baroque Aristocracy".
