Many of the challenges facing the Ohio River are RIVER-sable with proper planning. CURRENT-ly, organizations like the Ohio River Basin Alliance are advocating to increase federal funding for cleaning up the basin

The Ohio River Basin spans 130 million acres and 15 states with a total population of over 30 million people.
Challenges facing the Ohio River Basin include aging and failing infrastructure that inhibits the distribution of goods and clean water; toxic pollution in the water from legacy pollutants, agricultural runoff, and urban stormwater; and extreme weather events. Natural ecosystems in the Ohio River Basin generate at least $50 billion in annual public benefits for the region.
There is currently no coordinated federal investment in the Ohio River Basin. Establishing coordinated federal support through a restoration initiative would make a significant difference in the well-being of ecosystems and people in the Ohio River Basin, as it has in other U.S. watersheds.

Why Is Everybody Talking About Data Centers? What Are Data Centers? Data centers are large warehouses filled with racks of internet-connected servers. These devices store data and process everything from artificial intelligence (AI) computations to your weekly streamed movie night. As of March 2025, 5,426 data centers are operating in the United States, with hundreds more coming in the next year. Map of Data Centers in the United States. Processing large amounts of data creates a lot of heat. To cool their server racks, many data centers use water. Large data centers can consume up to 5 million gallons per day, equivalent to the water use of a town of 10,000 to 50,000 people.

Energy solutions:
Build data centers near a wealth of renewable energy, generate renewable energy on-site, or improve the energy efficiency of data centers. 
Water solutions: Create closed-loop systems (reusing water several times for cooling), use outside air to cool devices in colder climates, and submerge devices in synthetic (chemical) fluid tanks.
