From grey plastic to fully painted! Ancient Leshan is a cool mini from one of the Witcher sets for Umatched. So much fun to paint!

Last year I went to a gaming convention. This year I'm at a speculative fiction writer's convention.
This is the life! 😁

I got some bookmarks and business cards printed and I'm so pleased with how they've come out!

I'm excited to almost have another book out. 😁 Yes, proofing is almost done on my sci-fi noir novel!

Here's a taste:
"If the back of her hand hadn't worn the proud, fresh lines of a rival clan's tattoo, he might just have made her his enforcer. Instead, after a time, he'd made her a friend."

Sometimes I think the hardest thing about being a writer is watching "it was okay" movies and trying to love them for what they are instead of thinking up 5 far more interesting plots. And I'm totally not saying this after watching The Gorge 🤣

Quick snap of a new shelf I'm doing for my boardgame pieces. Fairly sure I'm going to open a game box at some future point and wonder where the minis are! 🤣

4 characters I write:
- inventors (because who doesn't love a multi use tool?)
- good people who sometimes mess up
- talented people who don't realise how talented they are
- zealots who do bad things because of their zealotry
4 characters I write:
- OK, I screwed up, but I can fix it! (by making it worse)
- older woman behaving badly (usually while smoking a pipe)
- why am I the only sensible person in this whole goddamn plot? (then fucks up the most)
- bitches get shit done (sometimes these last two overlap)
4 characters I write:
1) I can't tell the difference between proximity/familiarity and love so maybe I love you???
2. I am an ultracompetent a-hole! Please like me!
3. I am so tired (I am in the plot so I can go back to bed)
4. Not only am I not a hero, I believe NOBODY is a hero (ever)

You know, the biggest compliment I've gotten on Burning the Bones so far has been the sleep deprivation of readers who accidentally stayed up 'til the early hours reading it. 😁

Updated my website just now, adding an upcoming sci fi noir novel to the existing post apocalyptic one and the new snarky sci fi adventure I just published. Guess I'm an eclectic author? 😂
Check out www.eemarkham.com if any of that is your type of sci fi!

Spent the past few days revisiting a novel I haven't touched in eight years.

We'll find out how many ladders and pots of spackle I left lying around in the corners of the plot.

I was reading an old draft of my sci-fi noir novel today, and there are these sections where the dialogue gets a bit Jane Austen. I'd forgotten I was also writing an adaptation of an Austen novel at the time I wrote this! 🤣 Austen noir?

Lost both John Marsden and Michael Leunig in the same week. They'll both be missed, but what a wonderful creative legacy they leave behind.

I keep getting messages from friends who are reading my book saying "I can't believe you did that!" and I know exactly which scene they've just read. 🤣😏

This week I got my first sale to someone who found my book without having any connections to me. I hope they enjoy Burning the Bones! It's nice to know that the "blurb" I wrote spoke to them 😁

Chatting with people who share your creative passion is like how I imagine my phone feels sitting on its charger.
I'd almost forgotten this & then, last weekend, I spent a couple of hours talking writing. Felt amazing!
Reminded me to chat with my mini painter friends too for a hobby boost!
