I think this volume is what really begins TAD's exploration of family. So many blood relations feel muddy and torn apart due to the power dynamics at play. It says a lot how loudly they show that Luomen is Maomao's real father. Blood is irrelevant in the face of legitimate love and I adore that

Reading volume 2 of Apothecary Diaries reminded me how legitimately uncomfortable Maomao's situation with her biological parents is. She has to take care of her bedridden mother who hated her since she was a baby and avoids her biological father who keeps trying to claim ownership of her.

Continues to be a vibe that I'm having an enjoyable time with. The emphasis on the purple creature's assistant was pretty nice and allowed for some heart to shine which I appreciate a lot. This show was very much made to endear the hearts of himejin.

The worldbuilding presented in this show is fascinating. I love explorations of the power dynamics between kids and adults and having our protagonist be someone who's both at once is really cool! They did a great job showing Sanda's kind heart and how creepy the antagonist is by contrast
