Ratio seemed somewhat taken aback by this. He settled back onto the bed properly, gazing at Aventurine as he went on an entire face journey. In any other context, it would have been hilarious. “Ah. I confess, I have harbored similar thoughts regarding your own prior situation.”

“That’s why I know you won’t hurt me,” Aventurine insisted, rising from where he’d been resting on an elbow so he could look Ratio in the eye. “Not just because we share a taste for vengeance, but because you know I’ve already killed a man for trying to ruin my life, and you’ll be next if you do the same.”
