December showed strong SME interest in practical sustainability. Energy savings, circular projects, second-hand office fit-outs and small pledges for 2025 stood out. Progress grows when it stays achievable and accessible.

Fair-Well brings low-waste shopping directly to London neighbourhoods — via their electric milk float "Charlie". The shop delivers organic, plastic-free groceries and household products without the need to visit a supermarket. What a lovely and local initiative brought about by Claire Marchais.

Sustainability only works when it is accessible. Clear steps, practical guidance and affordable options allow SMEs to take part without barriers. Real progress happens when everyone can get involved.

Google's emissions are up 48% since 2019, mainly due to AI. SMEs may not be running massive models, but AI is already in their tools. Planning for emissions now means avoiding the scramble later.

Only 15% of the UN's SDGs are on track. 80% are stalled or regressing. Progress is happening—but not fast enough. SMEs still have a chance to lead where larger players are lagging.

A single smartphone emits ~55 kg of CO₂ over its life. Electronics as a whole? Around 2–3% of global GHG emissions. Our tech comes with a carbon cost — and it's time we paid more attention to it.

Each @circularcomputing.bsky.social laptop saves 316 kg CO₂, 190k litres of water, and 1,200 kg of resources. They also fund one week of clean water per sale with @charitywater.bsky.social. Carbon-neutral tech that gives back because impact isn't just environmental.

Many SMEs overlook digital emissions - cloud storage, video calls, and unused devices all add up. These hidden tech drains hit your bottom line and your carbon goals. What's hiding in your IT stack?
October 30, 2025 at 10:50 AM
Nearly 40 million tonnes of tech are discarded without formal recycling every year. Out of 50 million tonnes of e-waste, only one fifth is recovered. Each unrecycled device is wasted carbon, lost materials and reputational risk.

Digi-Wise is showing what inclusive AI looks like. Led by EducationAboveAll with partners at MIT, Harvard and @undp.org, it's helping children learn and question AI on their own terms. Ferby is already reaching millions of students in India in local languages.

The UK cut overall emissions to 371 MtCO₂e in 2024, but look closer: gas use in buildings still rose by roughly 2%, and residence-based emissions jumped 2.5% in Q2. If energy audits aren't built in at the start of every net zero plan, we're leaving the back door wide open to fossil fuel resurgence.

We celebrate digital growth while ignoring the water it swallows. One data centre can consume millions of litres a day. In regions already short on water, that's not innovation - it's extraction.

AI is protecting rainforests. @rainforestcx's solar-powered sensors listen for chainsaws in real time.
Their models alert rangers fast—and have saved forests in 37+ countries.
Nature meets tech, and it works.

Digital AI use drains water. Training GPT-3 used over 700,000 litres of water, and that's just one model. By 2027, global data centres could consume 4.2–6.6 billion cubic metres of water annually. We must find a more sustainable solution if we want to carry on expanding our use of AI for businesses.
October 16, 2025 at 11:43 AM
AI already accounts for 15–20% of data centre electricity, and could double by 2025. If your business uses AI tools, do you know the carbon cost? Your digital footprint is growing. Let's talk about managing it responsibly.

If sustainability still feels like a "nice-to-have," this one's for you. It's no longer just about the climate. It's about your bottom line and the ROI and savings businesses can experience. If you don't want to do it for the planet, do it to stay on top, to be the go-to for your sector.

EU deregulation may reduce reporting burdens, but the risks are real: lost comparability, more greenwashing, costly data gaps. As one Danish CEO said: "Customers expect the data." Legal or not, sustainability transparency still matters.

Not everything has to look perfect to be valuable. From wonky veg to repurposed homeware, brands like WonkyVegBoxes are proving that waste can be beautiful, useful, and affordable. A fresh take on sustainability—without the landfill.

England just reversed a 9-year ban on onshore wind. New strategy promises 45,000 jobs, local investment, and faster planning. Communities hosting turbines can benefit too. One of the cheapest energy sources is finally back on the table.

Carbon offsets aren't a shortcut to net zero. Emissions still count — even if you've paid to cancel them out. Net zero means cutting first, offsetting last, and only when necessary. Anything else is just outsourcing the problem.

Incredible Edible Todmorden started by planting herbs outside a police station. Now 120+ groups grow and share food in public, teaching resilience, trust and climate action without permission. A global movement rooted in care—and soil.

100,000 GPUs. Fully powered by hydropower. Stargate Norway is what happens when AI meets climate responsibility. A data centre built for the future - without the fossil footprint. A rare example of scale and sustainability working side by side. @nscale.com
