The locals pronounce it the way it’s spelt, oddly…

Guessing here: but the triangle-collar combo was only for long-sleeves. If you wanted short-sleeves, it was usually round-neck/airtex material (Billy in the Cup final). The v-neck was a one-season wonder in 1971/72 (debuted alongside the LUFC badge vs Juve in the summer of 1971).

The Admiral deal was done in Sept, apparently…!

Trevillion has never claimed it, no... it must have been an idea to keep pace with the stylised Forest/Derby badges that were coming in. Amazed no one has put their hand up to take the credit all these years.

Wonder if Umbro came up with the Smiley… they got it right in a way Admiral never quite did.

The dressing room shots at Anfield show Yorath and the Bremner in the same... although it looks like that letter two have taped over the Umbro logo.

Yeah, it's the game on March 16th, 1974 at Anfield. You can see McQueen wearing the short-sleeved, round-necked Umbro at 3:41 in the YTV doc, The Don of Elland Road. #lufc

Admiral came in cNovember 1973, IIRC. Think Ipswich (a) was the debut but will have to check! It was then mix and match with Umbro, as in Trevor Cherry below.

Year later, I’d say. Smiley introduced in the summer of 1973. Probably the game at Anfield in our title-chasing wobble in the spring of 1974.

… as was Matt Jones, IIRC

Fun fact about Charles, Sprake, Yorath, Harris (and Aubrey Powell, Byron Stevenson and Gwyn Thomas) was being recommended by the same one-eyed #LUFC scout — Jack Pickard.

We've done okay with Swansea-born players over the years... Charles, Sprake, now Rodon. Harold Williams and Brian Flynn were just up the road in Port Talbot, too.

I find them a useful guide as to what to avoid. I'm probably not going to enjoy something with "I couldn't put it down! - Penny Vicenzi" on the front.

You comparing Picasso to LS Lowry...???

Bit cartoony for me... and too much Manchester!

I have seen him in specs... I was never that huge a fan of his, honestly, although I did inherit a print of his that I'm hoping is worth a quid or two!

He looked like this in later life, which is how I always picture him.

The commas in the blurb feel unnecessary....

“You’ve got to start the drums then, haven’t you?”

Exactly the album I needed as a mid-teen growing up in a Pennine town…

Brilliant from KR… great to see a new champion. Game needs a new story and they were sensational tonight.
