Gardeners on the edge in South Wales. Growers of the unusual. Guerrilla planters. Carbon catchers. Fern learners. Banana collectors. Like to see what works in our climate and try not to mourn what doesn't too much 😭 Him & Her.

This Sonchus is MUCH happier now than the height of summer. They really do prefer indirect sun.

Musa yunnanensis growth since the stormy weather. Faired much better at the north side of the house than the south. Will be it's first winter outside. Might drag into the shed if it gets very cold.. #dwachelsgarden #bananasuk #tropicalwales #musayunnanensis
My beloved #brassaiopsis! The bodinieri is not as tough as the dumicola, so I'm going to have o bring it inside for this winter, at least. #tropicalwales
Musa yunnanensis, 2nd year from a plug. Bit ripped up from the winds, but it's really taken off now, and has several pups. It suffered a bit on the south-facing front drive. So i brought it to the back of the house, and it's doing really well in shade! #musayunnanensis #musa #bananas #tropicalwales
I use a lot of coffee. I use coir as my base and add chicken manure and vermiculite. And coffee! It's a winning mix!
That's weird. It's showing there's a response but I can't see it 😕
The amount of growth that Dahlia imperialis puts on from a tuber each season is incredible! Hopefully the season will be long enough for blooming! Had to hack back so our Abracadabra rose had some breathing space 😄

@projectpalm.bsky.social I wonder if you interested in what I'm doing currently to alert the UK government about underhand importation practices. Several stores are receiving palms infested with non-native pests like Rhizoecus sp. and Paysandisia mouth larvae. This threatens UK horticulture.
I am currently collating data from folk who have found plants at B&M etc infested with the non-native pest root mealy bug Rhizoecus sp. We don't know what the ramifications of diseased plants making it to the UK could be.
Several UK companies, such as B&M are selling diseased plants which are clearly circumnavigating UK import protocols. Maybe not the companies themselves, but those that are at the point in origin, fiddling phytosanitary paperwork. This could be stopped with adequate port checks and a few seizures.
An Aconitum appears to have hitched a ride from Crug Farm to me!
My Acers defoliated in the recent heat wave. It was over 40°C on our drive. But it's not affected the new growth on my Brassaiopsis. Not one bit. I'm keeping them in the shade as recommended by Crug Farm #crugfarm #Brassaiopsis #dwachelsgarden
Our Fuschia boliviana has been a real show stopper this year #dwachelsgarden #tropicalwales #Fuschia #Fuschiaboliviana
Canna Cleopatra. I suddenly have lots! Needed to rearrange and make space for my Butia. I've seen plugs selling for a tenner. I have quite big ones! If anyone in the Carmarthenshire area is after some, give me a shout! #Canna #cannacleopatra #tropicalwales #🌱🇬🇧 #dwachelsgarden
The Hostas have struggled with today's heat. But the flowers are are still looking great #hosta #hostaempresswu
It's a hot one in #dwachelsgarden today! Keep cool, everyone!
Got little to do with spin. It's to do with polar sinking, density and temperature gradients.
Probably going to see a lot more toxic algae species. We already introduce them in ballast. They may now thrive.
