Hi, I'm Duncan! I'm a pharmaceuticals engineer in my 50s living in the Chicago area. I post about food, road trips (often with my blind border collie, Charlie), m/m romances (paranormal/contemporary), asexuality, and werewolves. Oh, and I've helped run a large furry convention for the last 25 years.
A photo of Charlie, a brown and white border collie, and Duncan. Charlie's right ear is standing up and his left ear is flopped over, a trademark of his perpetual cuteness.

It's bad enough to lose them at all, but unexpectedly is simply awful. Sorry to hear that.

Time to break out that 55-gallon drum of lube!

You just need to get your hands on a snow mobile and do a tour of crappy dive bars.

I suppose one benefit of Going Somewhere where there isn't necessarily much going on is that you don't feel like you need to rush around and can just laze around and relax.

I got to check out Orient Beach in St. Martin, so I know it's a cool place 🙂 I do still need to get down to the ABC's, though!

I may take you up on that! (Though I'll remember to bring flip-flops this time so I don't cold-burn my feet on the patio 🙂)

While road tripping has helped me appreciate the charms of almost* every town I've been through, I think I'll pass.

*Bakerfield, California has no redeeming qualities, sorry.

After thinking about Christmas travel more, I think I'll be spending the holidays around home again this year. After the expense of Charlie's surgery back in February and other travel this year, it's more prudent to hold off on big travel expenditures for a bit. Maybe next year, though!

Interesting idea! Buy ye gods, those hotel prices... (No great surprise - holiday week + popular destination, it makes sense)

Heh. I had it for the first time when I was out your way earlier this year, from Pat’s in Somerville.

As Mirko said, yeah. The Caribbean in general isn’t particularly queer-friendly, though St. Martin/Sint Maarten is an interesting place I’d like to explore more.

Understandable. I haven’t had it much, mainly because I’m a little leery of stuff being *too* spicy, but I’m exploring a bit more.

Dinner tonight was Detroit-style pizza from my favorite local place. I got a “large” (really just 2 smalls) and tried some new toppings: pepperoni and hot honey (yum) and mushrooms with a porcini mushroom sauce. The latter was good but, um, not particularly photogenic.

Believe it or not, I’ve visited 49 states - Hawaii would be the last one. I guess I could start aiming for US Territories. I’ve got Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands already - time to head to American Samoa, Guam, or the Northern Mariana Islands next.

Well, it’s definitely warmer. A bit random, though, and there’s the small problem that I speak almost no Spanish.

I haven't traveled over Christmas since The Before Times (in years past I've gone to Montreal, Seattle, and San Diego). I'd like to go someplace warm for a change, though! Maybe Hawaii? I need to think on it further.

Yeah, ext time I make these I’ll probably do that.

Fuck yeah. You’ve passed one of the hardest parts, just taking that first step.

Ok, now that I’ve had a chance to try the result: this was Serious Eats’ version (https://www.seriouseats.com/chocolate-babka-recipe-8711555), compared to the NY Times version I’ve made previously (https://archive.is/oP2Tb). The SerEats bread was better, but the NYT’s filling & streusel were better.

after millions of views and shares of my Portland Frog art. (thank you all🙏🏾) I got requests to highlight priests, and chickens, and Chicagoans, and T-Rexes, and more… all of us who refuse to bend the knee. so this is for US.

Paul Hollywood would be scandalized by my babka-shaping skills, but you can cover a multitude of sins with streusel 🙂
