It's #SewingLoversDay today. Dunblane Museum has sampler on display from 1821 when sewing was seen as important accomplishment for girls to have in Scottish schools

Girls were required to sew samplers demonstrating different kinds of stitches.

#31daysofgraves day 4 language. Headstone Very Rev Monsignor Paul Maclachlan, Dunblane Cathedral graveyard, 'Requiescat in Pace'. Roman Catholic Parish priest at Doune. He intended to say the first mass in the new chapel in Dunblane, where he was to retire to, but died 3 weeks before.

#31daysofgraves day 5 - bird. James Robin, joiner died age 40, in 1886 went he fell down steps outside his house and fractured his skull. Dunblane Cathedral graveyard. There is one actual carved bird on a headstone, but I used that last year. Image from Dunblane Museum, by Len Bovill.

#31daysofgraves Day 6 gender, Stuart Craig Dow beloved wife of D. A. McLaren Dunblane Cathedral graveyard. Her family stuck strictly to the Scottish traditions of naming, her gdmother also called Stuart. Mother's maiden name was Stewart. Died age 33 at Royal Samaritan Hospital for Women in Glasgow.

#31daysofgraves Day 8 glass. John Gauld of Glass, Banffshire, Detective Sergeant, worked in Perthshire Constabulary for almost 30yrs. Also Andrew Barlas head gardener on Glassingall estate. Died when blood vessel burst while he had a stretch! Dunblane Cathedral graveyard.

#31daysofgraves Day 10 urn. We have a few urns at Dunblane Cathedral graveyard. This is my favourite, as I'm rather partial to a palmette or two or three! John Watson manager of Airthrey paper mill and wife Mary Coubrough. Note blue sky, at last.

#31daysofgraves Sergeant Albert Bayne who received Distinguished Conduct Medal. Bayne family headstone in Dunblane Cathedral graveyard. A few weeks after this article was published he was killed in action.
