On Sep. 3, 1972, a catastrophic flood hit Hillsboro NM, killing 4 people and destroying the original Catholic Church. Soon thereafter, Lonjino Rubio built a small shrine made of steel and shaped like the original church, overlooking the town, with spectacular views of the mountains.
