@drwally.bsky.social
Hello, I’m Dr Wally.
I believe humanity is one of the universe’s most fascinating experiments — and it’s up to us whether it continues.
I post reminders that we’re all in this together. #HumanTogether
Syllabi at public institutions probably ought to be public. Taxpayers fund the work, and students deserve transparency. The problem is when the loudest megaphones with the deepest pockets (and often the least expertise) get to judge that plan. Thats just anti-intellectualism.

When Everyone Can See Your Syllabus
More states are requiring public colleges to make class syllabi available to the masses. Proponents say these measures boost higher ed’s credibility, while faculty fear being targeted.

When did simple living become “adulting”? Did we start needing basic life tasks to count as an achievement?

It’s striking how the world’s harshness has followed us into the college classroom. I see young faculty and grad instructors lose their jobs after a single misstep…when these moments should still be part of their development. Surprised anyone even wants to join this profession now. #HumanTogether

Can someone please explain this to me? Last night it was 7° here. I left two half-consumed bottles of soda outside in my car. This morning I found the Diet Coke was frozen solid. The Diet Pepsi didn’t have a single ice crystal. WTH?

There’s a particular irony in a school built on dissent, critique, and social imagination responding to crisis with a strategy that silences experience and institutional memory. Efficiency is easy. Stewardship is harder.

In conversations with professor colleagues about AI and writing, I’m struck by how the debate stays stuck on banning vs allowing. That framing is already obsolete. The essential skill now is human oversight: knowing when to use it, how to interrogate it, and owning the outcome.

Higher ed in America has become a pretty terrible career path. If you’re not battling enrollment cliffs, you’re being extorted by the feds; if you’re not disrespected by anti-intellectualism, you’re getting canceled by your own students. Feels like the whole venture is bleeding out. #HumanTogether

Every day SCOTUS is in session is a day I think about how if it weren't for their entire corruption, we wouldn't be here in the first place.

I remember when America was a shining beacon of science—where the world’s best and brightest came to learn and discover. And they stayed.

Watching graduate STEM pathways shrink feels like pulling the plug on the circuitry that powered global progress.

The collapse of rational thought isn’t sudden — it’s gradual. First, evidence stops mattering, then expertise becomes suspect, and finally truth becomes a matter of tribe. We’re deep into phase three. Would hate to be a fledgling professor just starting out right now.
