Disappointed w/new commercial form of #hydroxyurea - Xromi by #RareDiseaseTherapeutics. 👎👎

1. No communication to clinics/ppl living with #sicklecelldisease & what it means for them:
- 10x the💰
- frequent prior auths

2. Safety info discusses side effects in myeloproliferative disease, NOT SCD

Heavily co-sign all of these but babies don’t need chiropractors is a truth deep from my soul

The sig of a month focused on BOTH sickle cell disease & childhood cancer isn’t lost on me as a PHO doc. Esp in current state.

Both vulnerable & need our collective voices so they don’t become invisible.

As PHO team members our words hold POWER. Let’s not leave any child we care for behind.

Overnight Congress approved the big beautiful bill cutting Medicaid, which insures nearly 1/2 of all kids.

You may think this won’t affect you but it will.

More uninsured means crowded ERs, closing practices, higher costs & longer waits.

Call your senators to tell them how ugly this bill is.

There is not a single congressional district in the U.S. where more than 15% of voters support cuts to SNAP, the federal program that provides food assistance to millions of low-income Americans.
Map of the U.S. showing voter support for cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, or food assistance) by congressional district. Support for SNAP cuts ranges from 5% to 14%. Created by Data for Progress.

Had a great time as faculty at the @ash.hematology.org sickle cell disease centers workshop.

An absolute necessity for improving #accesstocare for individuals living with #sicklecelldisease.

Medicare stops access to #Telehealth April 1st for almost all. [Even rural pts must drive to a 🏥 office 1st & THEN get telehealth.]

This will lead to:
1️⃣ less access to specialty care
2️⃣ poorer outcomes
3️⃣ higher costs for people with cancer

#Telemedicine was a step forward. Let's not fall back.

#Telehealth allows me to see patients on THEIR schedule. I've had consults from patient couches, home offices, from the alleyway outside their retail jobs, & from their cars during lunch break. I am for any tool which enables you to live on your time (not mine). #ASCOAdvocacy

Urge Congress to extend Medicare telehealth flexibilities beyond 2024 by passing the CONNECT for Health Act or the Telehealth Modernization Act.

I repeat…check on your research friends. They are not well. 😞

#NIH just slashed indirect costs caps on grants to 15%--this is a HUGE blow to the research community. While there is certainly inefficiency to the grants system, indirects help institutions support scientists & academic infrastructure. No one will want to do research anymore. #medsky #academicsky

I know 😫. And they did so well in Episode 2, but this was an opportunity missed 😭

All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

No study section...no grant reviews
No grant reviews...no grants awarded
No grants awarded...no research
No research...no functional NIH

When your team has grown so much, you can’t fit them in one shot 🤩

We took time away last week to remind ourselves of why we do what we do, celebrate our successes and plan for the future. Proud of this team and what they’ve accomplished.

Amazon's One Medical #Telemedicine Program being sued should not come as a surprise to anyone. I'll sing telemedicine's praises from the rooftop, but it, like anything, has its limitations. No cutting corners in provider knowledge or expertise.

Amazon One Medical sued after patient prescribed inhaler dies in ER
A lawsuit filed by the family of Philip Tong, 45, claims he was experiencing severe emergency symptoms that staff at Amazon One Medical should have recognized as life-threatening.

This is what #advocacy can do! The medical community and legislators coming together to push back on the monopoly that is health insurance.

Insurers should have NO influence on whether a family can choose a life-saving procedure.
