I've been kinda quiet here. But life update, my Girlpie is finished with middle school and headed to HS. We are super excited for her next steps. Picture from day of the 8th grade dance.

I haven't posted here in a while. My father's funeral was last Wednesday. I'm as ok as one can be under such circumstances. Burial is next month, military. Le sigh.

I nicknamed him Easter Coat. He joined my 8th grade journalism class in January or so. Cussed me out and eloped on day 1. I told security to bring him back to my room, not the office. He came back. I laid him out. He sat down. He was super dysregulated on Mondays.
That one student going out his way to get on his teacher's nerves every single day.

We left town for Obama's 1st inauguration. We wanted to get away, and flights out of DC were dirt cheap that weekend. We ended up in a boutique hotel in Miami and watched the swearing in with a multi-national group of folks in the hotel lobby.

I told my husband that I find most team sports to be fascinating. People train their bodies to do incredible feats and then trust their bodies to do these things while competing against other people who have also trained in a similar fashion. He told me that my observation wasn't helpful, lol.

Oh yeah, I'm a bio-mom, bonus mom, and Godmom. I take each one of those toles very seriously. My bonus babies are grown-ups, and most have families of their own. I'm a kidney donor and former dance teacher. I was also a minister a long time ago.

My 14 year old daughter has been asking me questions. A lot of them. Turns out, when you make space for your kids to tell or ask you anything, they really will tell or ask you anything. Anywho, the most recent questions brought up choices that I made when I was a little older than she is now.

I had a WW colleague who "marched w/King" who fit this bill. However, at the same school, the music teacher was a Freedom Singer from Alabama. She used to snatch all of their edges. I would openly laugh during staff meetings when she'd go off on them.
13/? So it would behoove younger Black folks to listen to Black Gen X because we lived through this crucible of white leftists and their "burn it all down" mentality and performative bullshit. We have been dealing with this from the moment we set foot in school.

My child hasn't been to school since 12/19. I told her that she's not going to know how to sit at a desk.

I took some time yesterday to actually write down all of my writing and project goals for January. It's a heavy lift plus three classes, but I can knock it out in the early part of the semester and chill towards the end.

I intend to continue to give my children "good soil" so that they can grow into all that they are supposed to be.
