Reflecting on GhibliGate:
If the "meaning" we value is devalued by an abundance of it, perhaps what was valuable wasn't the quality itself, but rather its scarcity?
Is arts value it's evocation, or that it's singular? NFTs etc
- catalyzed by @davenadig.bsky.social and @gestaltu.bsky.social

Great discussion from @aptshadow.bsky.social and Sam Arbesman on all things scif, speculative evolution and our short track record in the cosmos.
Love the idea of "cathedral values" where you work on sometime you know won't be finished in your lifetime.

Every time I see a post ranting about CI I'm not sure if it's Confidence Intervals or Continuous Integration.
Either way, I click.

As a person with all notifications on silent, it's insane when I'm on a call with a person with all notifications on.
How do they think with all that noise?

A "feature" i always wanted at the old place was topic filters: i have nothing against {your sport team, your political takes}, but they are noise I'd like to filter out.
I wonder if this would be possible here/ on-proto: have an AI classifier filter my feeds to just the interesting stuff.

- Why are we training AI to be like us? They should be complementary (different)?
- How do humans learn concepts with so much less data?
- Why would you invest in education when AI seems competent?

The list of sci-fi stuff I was *sure* I'd never seen in my lifetime is dwindling at an alarming rate:
✅Done:
- Star Trek communicators (smartphones)
- Star Trek computer voice interfaces
🔜 Soon
- Skynet
- Androids
❔Remaining:
- Aliens
- FTL travel
- Star Trek replicators
- Transporters
