Queer boi-ish from Buffalo. I'm a producer, composer, & DJ, as well as a full-stack developer. They/them. I bring startups to prod and make outlandish concept albums that intentionally mix-and-match genres, focused around a base of EDM & pop.

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

And then social commentary is a different category, where you have to score on how forceful, true, AND convincing it all is- something where Kendrick or RATM would be high on the list.

I guess I'm saying lyrics have genres too, according to what their purpose is.

But then there's another school of lyrics-writing I like too, which is timely and wry and loves specifics. Something like 100 Gecs or Frank Zappa is so full of references to specific apps and moods and moments in time, it locks them into their year but makes them razor sharp.

Saw some threads earlier about greatest lyricists. I think you have to differentiate for different purposes of lyrics.

For instance, accessbility: I respect Linkin Park's vagueness and ability to make generic enough lyrics that make a point that resonate with EVERYONE who's ever been lonely.

bad bunny is literally the #2 best selling artist on the planet behind swift! if you cant get swift he is objectively and meritocratically the most deserving choice!

They'll never be satisfied unless it's literally Morgan Wallen and nobody else, and he gets to say you know what on stage.

I think my most inconsequential-but-still-real music opinion is: I wish pedal steel guitar wasn't so country-coded. It's a gorgeous instrument that adds to every track, and every time somebody uses it outside of country, it's glamorous. Just so hard to use it and not trigger "this is country"

I recognize this thread, but I would also like to add this is overrepresenting SF-type startups; they're the worst of the worst, but I've built my career in small town startups and Techstars companies, and ethics and responsible governance are usually front of mind. SF-style is a choice!

Our highly trained NAVY Seals and Marines will bring The Duke "A Number One" to JUSTICE! It's TRUMP that is A Number One, the so-called DUKE will soon be B NUMBER TWO!

I think I've put my finger on what makes all Oasis' music seem so dickish and aloof in hindsight.

If you listen closely you'll notice the lyrics are RARELY "me". They're overwhelmingly about how YOU'LL feel, what YOU will do, what YOUR actions will cause. Nearly all other artists are like 90% "me"!

Looking for some political-but-not-strictly-political music to purchase this BandCamp Friday? "Radical Honesty" is clearly written from a queer, leftist angle, but not insistently so. I'll highlight some of the most "in our present moment" lyrics below: downupright.bandcamp.com/album/radica...

A Funeral Service For The Good Internet

It was a playground before it was a prison
And from the ashes, a fascism has risen
We made a huge mistake when we traded Tom for Mark
When the telescreen goes dark I’ll hope the future isn’t…

In On The Joke

And if you start to understand the joke,
Congratulations, now the joke’s on you
The disappointment, the total lack of surprise
Go cough up logic til you start to choke
I’m so much funnier now I’m the target
Now do you get it, we’re in on the joke

You're The Particle And I'm The Wave

There is no better future
There is no brighter day
We had a chance to build a better world
And we threw it all away
All we have is each other
But has that really changed?
It was always us against the world
And now the world's just rearranged
