There's a new 2025 peak demand record in ERCOT: 82,566 megawatts at 4:55 today. Solar provided 30% of the power at that time and wind about 16%; wholesale power was just $22/MWh. No conservation alerts. No energy emergencies. Just abundant, affordable power. #txlege #txenergy

Electricity costs are increasing nationwide, but the idea that clean energy drives up prices? The data clearly doesn't support those claims. States that added renewables fastest generally have lower electricity costs.

Data shows Administration's claims on renewables are wrong, states with higher shares of renewables typically have lower electricity costs. Markets are choosing renewables based on price.

As late as the summer of 2023, the max output of batteries was 1 GW and the highest in 2024 was 4GW. It took one year to double with yesterday as the first day ever over 8GW.

Texas is now #1 in battery storage, edging out California. #txlege #txenergy

There are two new battery energy storage records in Texas: largest instantaneous amount of storage (8.63 gigawatts) and largest percent of load met by storage (13.2%).

Battery energy storage is up 100% year-over-year. 1/2

Also in the link below, ERCOT's Monthly Outlook shows 10% chance of outages if demand reaches 76 gigawatts in December. Meanwhile, utilities took home $100 million in "bonuses" for energy efficiency, even though savings were the lowest in the last 5 years.

Also, utilities took home nearly $100 million in bonuses despite lower achievement; ERCOT's Monthly Outlook doesn't consider drops in gas output; minimum demand was up sharply this summer

Texas is about to get a 400 MW / 1.8 gigawatt-hour battery. The second and third phases will have 5-hour duration storage, the first project of its kind in Texas. I wrote today about how decisions over a new ancillary service could attract longer duration storage – or not. 1/2

The oil and gas vs. renewables in a death match narrative is false and extremely counterproductive. "
it’s time for the oil and gas-vs.-renewables storyline to die. They’re a perfect match — one made not in heaven, but in the Texas oilfields."

A Match Made in Texas
The state’s oil and gas sector is increasingly turning to renewable energy to power its operations while some of the right wing “think tanks” they fund work against their interests

Oil & gas vs renewables is a false fight. In fact, many oil and gas producers want to connect to the grid to power their operations with renewables.

“More energy, less emissions” should be our path forward. 1/

AI is just the start. Robotics, biotech & advanced computing will drive terawatt-scale demand.

Texas has the mix to lead, but only if we plan in terawatts, not gigawatts.

Reducing energy waste in homes could offset all projected data center demand. @rewiringamerica's new report shows how: in exchange for speed to power, data centers fund residential load reductions. Households get lower bills & the grid gets more reliable.

Cheap power brings new industries. Higher demand leads to higher prices which leads to more solar + storage and cheaper power again.
