At a distance of 6,000 light-years, the Cepheid variable star was observed by Hubble and is one of the biggest and brightest known Cepheids in the Milky Way galaxy.

Each color shows the passage of time. As the bright flash of light left the star, it illuminated the dust surrounding it, but because space is so big, we actually see the light travelling and illuminating the dust as it goes along.
