“She’s a beaut, Clark!” Picked up an old satellite tv antenna to add to my at home radio/microwave tinkering. Hopefully will listen in to some direct broadcasts from low earth orbit

I know the turkey is the star today, but here in Salt Lake its also that time of year where other birds show up on the radar. Here is a fun gif from last night 👇 Just another thing you notice, by just watching the radar from time to time. 10 out of 10 would recommend

If I told you this was Utah, would you believe me? Love having train options in the valley

Here in SLC, we have been locked in a low stratus cloud (image 1) keeping things cool and damp. You can leave this gloomy day by a quick travel up one of the canyons (image 2). Local ceilometer shows the clouds in bright blue/purple/white (image 3). Sounding to round out the deep dive 😶‍🌫️

I’m glad turning it on and off fixes many problems because sys admin on orbit sounds like a wild job
It is not easy to build data centers here on Earth. There is not enough capacity on our energy grid to power everything. That may get worse as people demand more and more AI. So a couple companies, including Google, have now announced that they are exploring building data centers in space.

🌀On the snap of my fingers, everyone will agree that NOAA and NSF should continue to do fundamental weather research 🫰
Alrighty, ready to see something really cool? (and maybe a little nauseating)

The evolution of Hurricane Melissa's mesovortices at peak strength.

Some interesting views from low earth orbit of the effects of Melissa on land/ocean. Check out the brownish ocean color near land in the second picture. Sediment runoff

Ever wonder what the second-wettest 24 hours on record in Salt Lake City looks like? A strong shortwave passed through on Saturday, delivering a rare all-day rain and dropping 2.39 inches at the airport!
