That is exactly how this comes across. And why I am rather ticked off about it. I despise types like that. It's that special incompetence that turns to malice as soon as you prove them wrong.
He was eventually given a permaban. But it took pushback from her manager. Permaban should have been the start, as folks point out.
They did *eventually* get him a lifetime ban. It took an hour of cajoling from her manager to get it. But, as people pointed out, he could have easily signed up with a burner account and lost nothing.
Several artists I've gotten lovely work from over the many years have ceased making art entirely. Hell, the artist of my first model only does the occasional sketch now due to IRL work.
Support the artists you like now because tomorrow you might not be able to find them.
This goes well far from "oops we screwed up" or "oops we didn't know better." They knew they had to lie about things before the con for the sake of PR. And now that an incident predictably happened that they failed to properly address, they just want to ignore it and pretend it doesn't matter.
Exactly. This is the kind of scenario business owners and con runners prep for, because statistics says it WILL happen. What gets me here:

- There was no plan.
- They lied about having a plan.
- They are oblivious to the NEED for a plan.
- They think those demanding better planning are "crazy."
I think I may have seen her before? Somewhere? I don't know her from Adam. What gets me is a guest who requires extra security due to a proven track record of being subjected to threats was not supplied that. A totally preventable incident occurred. And they dare act blasé about it.
And Twitch *knew* Emiru had been threatened with murder by a stalker before, yet they forced her to do the meet and greet (that she did not want to). Any con runner knows that a guest with special safety concerns REQUIRES additional support. Twitch failed due diligence here.
I agree with your assessment. That an error like this CAN happen is true of any con. But I think we should be looking at the apathetic response both from the floor volunteers AND the two bigwigs, who did not realize how bad this breach was.
Exactly. Some people are trying to dismiss this as a "she was just hugged." It was a window of opportunity for murder and she is very lucky it didn't go that way. And somehow I don't think Twitch could have responded much different had she been killed.
I think it is fair to surmise that the reason so many different large streamers - from across the spectrum of politics and entertainment - did not attend was they were warned: "You're on your own, we don't care if you're hurt." So they wisely stayed home.
The overall message is clear: Twitch *does not care* if any attendee, big or small, is vulnerable to harm on the premises during TwitchCon. They will do what they can to sweep it under the rug if it happens. Those who commit harm will get away with it with minimal repercussions.
Stack on top of this the complete indifference to what a horrendous security breach this was. Not only the volunteers and manager on site did not care. When Emiru later met with security leads from Twitch and *Amazon*, neither cared or even wanted to punish the perp. The issue is systemic.
As someone who has staffed cons, this is the kind of incident that keeps con organizers awake at night. A guest could have been murdered during an event. That is an con-ending breach.

And they KNEW there was risk, since she'd been threatened by stalkers before.
We now know why the security turned back after pushing the man away: he was Emiru's security, as Twitch's event security was seemingly unaware or not present to intervene. That explains why he decided to return to Emiru.

Emiru's statement:
Emiru has noted that this got the attention of Amazon's Head of Security and Twitch's Risk Head. Their initial reaction was to just ban the perp for 30 days and nothing else. I think that reveals that the problem is not (just) a 3rd party but very much Twitch and Amazon's management.
What's worse is we know this statement by Twitch is largely a lie. They took hours to go after him thanks to the manager pushing. And were only going to suspend him for 30 days until she convinced the Head of Amazon Security to do more.

Serious doubt this guy is going to face charges.
Especially as she's had stalkers *threaten to murder her to her face* before just a year ago when doing a live stream. There was prior knowledge of threats to her life!

She even told them she didn't want to do this, but Twitch blackmailed her into it. It's all on them.
The guy who did it cut in from the side and was not supposed to be there (ticket only). So this wasn't a fan who got excited, but a legit intruder who dashed in unimpeded.

Emiru has also said that Twitch's formal response is a lie and we have every reason to believe her.
Sounds like it was the opposite. Folks saying the only security on hand was who she brought along. Nothing from Twitch.
Yes, you're right. Apparently the guy who did the push was not Twitch security but one of her private guards. Twitch provided NO security at this meet and greet. They did confirm the assaulter was removed and banned, but no word on charges.
It looked like they escorted the perp out. Unless that was some other guy.

Types like this can usually convince me to drink what's in the vial.

It's basically my Kryptonite.

I hope this is closer to the manga! Especially the second half, which had very bad pacing issues.
A new anime adaptation of CLAMP's "Magic Knight Rayearth" is scheduled to begin broadcasting in 2026!

At least with Wikipedia, I know the stuff that is made up was falsified by a human. And not the random fever dream of code.
