A lot of the strategists & pundits who think they’re strategists have developed a genuine resentment for the base of the party. They see the apparent alignment on the right as both replicable & desirable & they blame essentially anyone who doesn’t actively tack right for this perceived shortcoming

I obviously can’t change how you feel myself but I can say from personal experience that if you go volunteer once a month or so with your local Democratic county committee, you’ll probably feel much, much better about the party & your place in it

You can make the case that it was rushed and a lot of the characters suffered as a result, but that is absolutely the best ending for the overall themes and orientations of the story

I’m happy that the spirit literally never seems to die in kids. I’m sad that they need it. After the last 20 years and our own childhoods, to have ended up here is such an insane disappointment. Easy to forget that. But it’s great reminded that the future is always plastic

This is why a “sedevacantist” case after his term is up would be so funny. If you prove he was an insurrectionist & therefore his election was never legitimate, seems to me the effect would be to establish Vance as the true 47th president all along. Very funny to imagine Vance hearing that verdict

My hypothesis is that it’s always mostly about identity construction, but in some periods, political identity construction is achieved by the aim of improving material circumstances. In other periods, it’s something else. When it’s something else (now), you get greater dysfunction & a surging right

This is like people who post shit like “the constitution is no longer in effect.” I know what you mean, but that’s not true. It is in effect, but it’s being intentionally poorly enforced by a criminal government.

If it’s actually no longer in effect, there’s no mechanism for accountability
