In a matter of months, the veterinary tranquilizer medetomidine has flooded Philly's illicit opioid markets. Patients addicted to a drug they never sought out are filling ERs -- and experiencing terrifying side effects. With @maxmmarin.bsky.social: www.inquirer.com/health/a/med...
A new, potent street drug is causing severe withdrawal, and Philly doctors are scrambling to respond
By last winter, medetomidine was showing up in 70% of illicit opioid samples tested in Philly, along with other unregulated substances and synthetic opioids like fentanyl.

Dying to know how much the PMA paid some marketers for the suggestion that they change their name and its universally known acronym to … the “PhAM.” Incredible work. Congrats on the rebrand!

The Philadelphia Museum of Art has a new name and other plans to revive attendance
Chasing an elusive pandemic recovery, the museum is rolling out a slew of changes. It includes a new name and logo, and an embracing of dips into sports, hip hop, and Sylvester Stallone.

For years, planners, architects, and city officials have quietly worked to reimagine Philly's Ben Franklin Parkway. Now that work is set to become a reality.

@dmurrell.bsky.social and @phillymag.com with an exclusive first look at the new (and vastly improved) Parkway:
A Century Later, the Parkway’s Grand Vision May Finally Come True
Ben Franklin Parkway is one of Philadelphia’s most dangerous roads — not to mention an abysmal place to walk. The solution? Redesign the entire thing — all the way from Logan Circle to the Art Museum.

Good news, the pedestrian experience along the Parkway is about to get less horrific! I wrote about the years-in-the-making redesign for Philly Mag. www.phillymag.com/news/2025/09...

If you’re not literally dreaming about your fantasy team getting a Caleb Williams td pass to Rome Odunze, then you’re not sufficiently locked in. Skill issue... #TEAMZAG

There should be a way to short the performance of privately owned businesses... I would have made a fortune off of Bankroll, and I'm ready to do it all again for these Wonder "food halls"... and maybe, just maybe, even the F1 arcade...

Weird lowkey positive consequence of septa cuts is that the bsl is actually somewhat crowded at rush hour, instead of feeling strangely unpopulated. Feels like riding the subway in nyc. Kinda nice! More people should ride the subway.

It happened again. 0 for 2 trying to get to Wayne Pennsylvania this week during rush hour on regional rail’s most busy line 👍👍 love to live in a functional city
The thing about septa is it’s already completely unusable if you have to use it to get places regularly. Ex: if you were taking the main line to the burbs today at rush hour, too bad! Two consecutive trains canceled. Even if they get funding it’s like…great, this is the status quo we get to keep👍👍

I haven’t been to quizzo in years but this is devastating 😭😭 I loved Johnny goodtimes so much I wrote a (mediocre and corny but also not as bad as I would have expected) profile of him for the student magazine while in college www.34st.com/article/2016...

The first couple days after the trolley blitz are the best time of the year. A beautiful, fleeting vision of What Could Be Possible 😇😍

New York mag’s Hamptons issue was low key a stroke of genius… more glossy ads here than you usually see in an issue by like 10x 😮😮 saving journalism!

I can’t decide whether it’s worse to have no countdown clocks on your transit system or one where your app says the bus is coming when it’s not actually running. Luckily, septa provides both experiences - often on the very same day!

It’s such a shame I wasn’t a baseball prodigy because I really feel the MLB would have benefitted from my walk up song, Sufjan Stevens’s “Concerning the UFO sighting near Highland, Illinois.”

Is there an alternate cast for this French open final where I don’t have to see Bob Kraft and Spike Lee courtside every other shot??
June 8, 2025 at 1:51 PM
It’s just so cruel that the pacers are gonna make the finals and we aren’t gonna get them playing the Jazz in the all-highlighter-yellow matchup we deserve 😭

Every time Mike Conley misses a shot I’m so stunned… like that’s the nba pandemic HORSE champion Mike Conley….

See, this is why we should fund septa. Much more reliable mode of transportation! Instead of replacing these two $67 million planes, just cut septa a check!!

Why wasn’t the Vatican City band playing a cover of “We No Speak Americano” by DCUP, aka the “Papa Americano” song, to introduce the new pope? This is an insult to all Americans!!
May 8, 2025 at 5:29 PM
Wake me up when we have the first Gen Z pope. Until then? Not interested.
