Marie McGowan, 89, has died 3 years after a brutal assault during which she was put headfirst into a rubbish bin. Her attacker, Alex Bailey, believed she was "a man dressed as a woman."

This is the world the transphobes are creating "to protect women."

RIP Marie. share.google/PFaI5YTh9tBw...

The soybean crisis may have been induced by tariffs, but it's the *culmination* of a lack of resiliency in the farm economy, with overdependence on exports and single crops and self-perpetuating bailouts. Great breakdown from Naomi Bethune:

America Bet the Farm on Soybeans. Then Came Trump.
Collapsing soybean exports reveal an agricultural sector rife with longstanding problems.

You probably know little about the Institute of Education Sciences, but it's the research and data arm of the Dept of Education. Or it was, until Trump obliterated it. And if you don't have good data, you can't make good decisions. From our friends at @revolvingdoordc.bsky.social:
The Republican Plot to Destroy Education Research
Elon Musk and the Trump administration have gutted the Institute of Education Science.

Trump’s call for Texas to do a “simple” gerrymander has kicked off a redistricting arms race that no one asked for.

We can’t let one person’s ego rewrite the rules of our democracy.

Open enrollment for ACA plans began yesterday in Idaho.

One couple got notice that their monthly premium next year would jump from $51 to $2,232 as subsidies expire.

25,000 Idahoans are expected to be priced out of coverage.

This is what's at stake in Trump's shutdown.

The Supreme Court is on the verge of gutting the Voting Rights Act's equal opportunity protections for minority voters — 12 years after they first rolled back its safeguards against voter suppression.

The Supreme Court may severely pare back Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, which would allow Republicans to draw racially discriminatory congressional maps and secure a continued House majority From @ddayen.bsky.social:

The 2026 Election Is Being Decided at the Supreme Court
A case heard Wednesday will go a long way to determining whether Republicans can gerrymander their way to a near-permanent House majority.

AOC: And they are able to radicalize a generation of young boys in particular, away from healthy masculinity and into an insecure masculinity that requires the domination of others who are poorer, browner, darker, or a different gender than them.

Q: “Most hospitals + people who will lose insurance are in rural areas. If Trump & Republicans are so intent on sticking it to their own voters, why not let them?”

@aoc.bsky.social : “That’s the difference between us & Trump. I don’t care if you voted for me, I want you to have health care.”

Meta has removed a Chicago ICE-tracking Facebook page.

The move follows Apple and Google removing ICE activity tracking apps from their app stores.

The removals came after a demand from Trump’s DOJ.

Once again, Big Tech is bending the knee to our tyrant-in-chief to protect its bottom line.

Trump wants to DOUBLE Argentina's bailout to $40 billion to save his political ally.

Yet he is doing nothing to prevent 15 million Americans from losing their health care and 20 million from seeing a doubling in their premiums.

Is this what Trump means by America first?

Hey. Hi. Tom Homan is on camera taking a $50k bribe and no one knows where the money went. If this was any other administration, this would be non-stop on the news. Why are we normalizing this stuff?

Trump and Republicans made devastating cuts to Medicaid and plan to let vital ACA subsidies expire.

Millions on Medicaid will lose coverage. Millions on ACA plans could see premiums rise by 114% per latest estimates.

Every lie told about the shutdown is meant to cover this up.

Trump has frozen or canceled $28B in funding for infrastructure projects in Democratic congressional districts.

Meanwhile, representatives of those districts are fighting to extend ACA subsidies — more than half of which go to people in GOP-held districts.

Remember this.

If China restricts rare earth exports, it’d stop the AI buildout dead. Eighty percent of this year's stock market gains come from a few AI companies—whose success is entirely dependent on importing Chinese minerals. From @ddayen.bsky.social: trib.al/4UJxvzG
Why China Can Collapse the U.S. With One Decree
China holds a virtual monopoly over a product needed to produce the only thing holding up our economy right now. And it’s preparing to use that leverage.

Qatar gave Trump a $400M jet. Trump gave them a military facility on US soil.

The UAE bought $2B of Trump's stablecoin. Trump gave them access to rare AI chips.

Saudi Arabia invested $2B in Kushner's firm. Trump sold them $142B in arms.

If this isn't corruption, what is?

Trump and Vought are now breaking both sides of spending law. They’re illegally not spending where the law requires them to spend, and they’re illegally spending where they don’t have the money to spend.

What we have is an appropriations king.

Spending “deals” are meaningless under that setup.

A nationwide backlash to AI data centers is brewing.

And for good reason: while AI enriches Big Tech CEOs and props up the stock market, data centers are sucking up communities’ water and power.

When the AI bubble bursts, the rest of us will be stuck holding the bag. Be warned.
