Makes sense that people should have a reasonable level of the lingo,
wherever they are in Europe.

All of this is being put out to placate the right wing press...

In the meantime, it's causing fear & confusion. As I understand it:

● this only applies to some people on skilled visas
● it's not "A level English" it's something called SELT
● much the same requirement exists elsewhere in EU

Q: Politico reported on a group chat of young Republicans. Does this just reflect some bad apples?

HOCHUL: Some bad apples? These are the future of the GOP. This is so vile it's hard to find the words to put into context ... there's gotta be consequences ... this bullshit has to stop.

It’s not so much Coffeys expenses as the hypocrisy of her voting to remove £20 from those for whom £20 would make a big difference.

Especially when the tax payer picked up her utility bills.

Many of the ‘patriotic’ flaggers don’t even know which way up the Union flag is flown 🤯

The right are often heard to say ‘if you’ve nothing to hide you don’t need to worry’
So why not let in reporters to Israel?

Boris Johnson, "I tried to get the scientists to say that lockdown was a bad idea"

*they all laugh*

There were 26,000 covid deaths because Boris Johnson ignored scientists and delayed the first lockdown by a week

Agree about patriotic vs support of RW groups.

I think it weakens my argument if I trade insults though.

But if anyone
asks me what a ‘flagger’ is I’d be happy to tell them is a shortened version of the two words.
ditotts.bsky.social
We seem to be at cross purposes.
I do not have any alignment with divisive people (thugs) who drape themselves in flags and stand outside hotels or anywhere else and intimidate other people.
ditotts.bsky.social
Well, when talking about them in polite circles we need something that won't make people blush..
ditotts.bsky.social
'Flaggers' is the socially acceptable reference to them round our way.
😊

Our town council's reply to my query about the proliferation of flags on lampposts was that will be removed on the usual maintenance schedule - extra costs, hiring cherry picker blah blah.
Will look forward to them being removed when the Xmas lights go up...
🤔

Well put.
I’m glad the hostages are home but my mind is more concentrated on the 67,000 who’ve been murdered as well as the remaining Palestinians left homeless.

It sounded so much like 1984 meets Animal Farm that we had to turn off.
Nauseating self congratulatory tone when 67,000 people have been deliberately slaughtered or starved.

Listening to @mrjamesob.bsky.social who is commentating on the Israel/Trump meeting.
It sounds very much like 1984 has finally met Animal Farm such is the dystopian self congratulatory tone of the meeting.

If Israel has forgotten they have destroyed a population then some of us haven't.

Corrupt chancers urged to come up with an economic plan that isn’t utter bullshit. So, no tax cuts and austerity on steroids for a country already stuck in Farage’s Brexit dead end.
But hey, some super wealthy industry big (k)nobs will come on board to help con the little guy.

Farage to abandon manifesto's big plans for tax cuts

Extracts:
Farage will break with his manifesto pledges of £90 billion in tax cuts as he attempts to bolster his party's economic credibility.
The leader of Reform UK will promise not to reduce taxes before reducing spending, deep cuts to the civil service and a ban on borrowing to fund government expenditure in his first big speech on the economy next month.

"Reform will never borrow to spend, as Labour and the Tories have done for so long; instead, we will ensure savings are made before implementing tax cuts.
I will have more to say on all this in the coming weeks."

Speaking on the campaign trail before the Caerphilly by-election to the Welsh parliament on October 23, he did not respond to demands to name his shadow chancellor but suggested he would soon be able to draw on backing from the business community.
Several high-profile figures from industry have privately indicated they would be willing to serve in a Reform cabinet, party officials said
Farage said: "We will be launching between now and the budget, a new campaign — an economic campaign ... it's going to be very impactful. It'll another high-profile individual coming into politics from outside of politics, who's been supremely successful in their world." Promising a "total change of attitude" on the economy, he said: "We are not a party dominated by corporate thinking. The Tories and La-bour are both dominated by corporate thinking."
The IFS has questioned whether
Reform's economic plans are credible warning last year that the party had overestimated how much it could save through spending cuts: "Even with the extremely optimistic
assumptions
about how much economic growth would increase, the sums in this manifesto do not add up."
Right-leaning think tanks have also urged the party to set out more credible policy. The Institute for Economic Affairs last month called for Reform to
"put some serious economic policies on the table".

Well done to the Royal Marines!

They have successfully taken part in a dramatic counter-drugs interception of boats traveling at 40 knots across the Gult of Oman.

From helicopters a direct sniper shot was made into a boat engine,to knock it out.

They seized £35m of drugs, including heroin.

It comes as the latest in a series of drug seizures by the Royal Navy in the Gulf region.

"Lots done. Lots more to do."

As Parliament is set to return tomorrow, here is a video the Labour government have put out to show us some of the things they have achieved in the first year.

And it's a LOOOOOOONG list.
