Kiwi in the UK, described by British MPs as “cheap foreign labour”. Sweary leftie into travel, books, geeky wee moments, coffee, gigs. Ex-fundie. Cis ally 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️. Curious about the green slimy thing looking over your shoulder as you read.

Hey new followers! 👋🏻 I’m your garden variety sweary lefty. I’m into UK/NZ politics, travel, books, history, architecture/art and silly little things that tickle my brain. I have been known to drunk-post about Eurovision, rugby and dating. Fair warning: I’m a sporadic poster 😄

😂 I dunno, one of mine is yellow and so squishy it’s not really a pillow anymore… but it shapes to my neck so well! Sometimes you just have to admit your old favourites are beyond saving now.

Yeah that is… deffo a sign the relationship isn’t good, eh

Yeah a lot of that novel was uncomfortably familiar, even if it wasn’t quite so dramatic or severe. The bit about the guy waiting for the girl to break up with him when they both knew it was over? *sigh* too accurate.

That sounds like a DAY. You can do it! Little bits at a time count! You have reminded me my pillows are… probably a bit gross and I need fancy new ones 😂

This was one of my fave bits because 100% accurate 😂 Also British guys not being direct and nearly losing out: all of my guy mates here have done that 🤣🤣

Friend-shaped! Like that is a tiny cheerleader right there.

I wish I could credit the woman who made this sign (it was part of a pay equity protest in NZ) but I don’t know who she was (apart from a legend).
distantduck.bsky.social
Right? Always was, always will be, that defence was tired and bullshit even then.

Those days suck. Sending you spoons and luck

To be fair, I’ve loved reading about it from a stranger’s point of view. It’s interesting seeing a city you know well through someone else’s eyes. I’m enjoying it!

I caved, and got the Kindle version. I am thoroughly loving that the author thinks The Marble Arch (great ale pub) is a dainty step away from the station, when it’s a 30 minute speed walk at best 🤣. It was clearly a hasty google and name drop, which just adds to the hilarity. Thanks for the recc!

Ah I’ve not read much romance, I wouldn’t have considered that! I’ll keep an eye out for it.

I would much rather hear about his Underground Railroad work, to be fair, that’s much more intriguing. I’ll have a hunt for that essay! I’m really enjoying your Hope in the Dark book.

I am like 4 of these things. I love the bookmarks I have (they’re often souvenirs of great bookshops) but somehow always end up using receipts, tickets, wristbands instead. If I’m eating a marmite sandwich, odds are some of the marmite will become one with the book 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ha! YES. He’s all “I must go to the woods and be free (while my family do my laundry and cook my food)”. Just another insufferable posh boy on his Gap Yah, except he wrote a damn book about it.

Manchester mentioned! I would totally read this for the thrill of reading a book set in my adopted city, but mostly for that snark 🤣

Job occupations, from an 1881 census. Every one of these sounds like something a sorely provoked Captain Haddock would should at someone in times of heavy stress.

Wishing you fortitude and much distraction

Oh I’m like that! Or I grab books cheaply and then they sit on my bedside table in a humongous pile, waiting their turn. Snack cake books! I love that idea. I love eating and reading. What’s your fave cake to read with?

Novellas are way more accessible, too. Deffo a bonus from my pint of view! I totally get it, my TBR is huge 😂

Oooh I’ll have to look into those, thanks! Children of Time turns out to be first in a series. It tracks two different alien species and how they interact.

Children of Time. It is a *tome/doorstopper*
